Gary Aherns Obituary
Council Bluffs, IA. Gary proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years. After his discharge, Gary had a dual career, serving in the U.S. Air Force Reserve (Tech Sergeant) for 26 years, and driving for ABF Freight System for 30 years, retiring in 1998. Preceded in death by parents, Harry and Lucille (Judy) Aherns; infant daughter, Patricia; son, Harry Aherns; brother, Harry Aherns; and nephew, Justin Williams. Survived by his wife of 15 years, Denise Aherns, Council Bluffs; daughters, Denise Aherns, Treynor, IA, Michelle Aherns, Council Bluffs, and Sheri (Dave) Smith, Crescent, IA; sons, Gary (Dawn) Aherns, Jr., Brian Aherns, Jim Aherns, all of Council Bluffs, and Jeff (Nancy) Peterson, Omaha; 21 grandchildren; sister, Grace (Mike) Traylor, Council Bluffs; brothers, Teddy (Laura) Aherns, Jerry (Connie) Aherns, all of Council Bluffs, and Steve (Linda) Aherns, Elkhorn, NE; many nieces and nephews.
VISITATION with the family Monday 4-8pm at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. FUNERAL SERVICE Tuesday 11am at Crossroads Christian Center, 1307 No, 29th St. Interment, Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Honors tendered by the Offutt AFB Honor Guard. The family will direct memorials. The family invites all antique car club members to participate in the Procession to the Cemetery. CUTLER-O'NEILL-MEYER-WOODRING

This is a message from your first son Gary Dale Aherns Jr we miss you dearly, and still mourn once in awhile when we hear an Elvis song or see a supped up hot rod especially when it is a black 1942 ford or if we are at an auto show brings back lot's of old feeling's from the past or if we go camping like we used to do in Colorado up in the mountain's or fishing like we used to at the river or south Dakota we sure do miss you a lot and will forever but we love you lots Harry Gary and Brady miss you also we cant wait to see you again in heaven where we now know where you live we tell Jesus we said hi peace out.

Gary,you were a dear friend. I know for certain that at this time you are filled with joy being in the presence of your loving Savior. You are and will be missed by those of us who loved and cherished having you in our lives. I know I miss that gentle smile,and the twinkle that you had in you eyes. I honor you for how much you loved Denise and treasured her as your wife,a gift from God. Your passion for sharing Jesus with those you came in contact with,will always be remembered.

Gary has always been my favorite uncle. He always came over for coffee and my grandma, him and I would talk for hours. The few months he was in the hospital we got extremely close. I'm glad we got close, I just hate that it had to happen this way. Gary was a very wonderful man. He thought positive about everything. Never was there a moment when he had a negative thought about anything. He's now in no more pain, and I know he's watching over our family and friends. He will be truly missed. I love you uncle Gary.

Gary was a great man and will be missed by many. Most of our memories are from church way back and playing ball at the North 8th St. park. We've bumped into each other over the years. Always a smile.
