the Slide
when I was a kid,
my dad would build
the most wonderful winter ice slide
in our backyard.
my dad's heart and soul
was in that slide.
out in the dark, in the night, he would work...
building it up, building it up.
not a mild slide,
not for the faint of heart!
but a steep, wide, careening slide,
long and gleaming,
inviting kids to dare and challenge.
layer upon layer,
buckets of water
transformed into glee,
childhood happiness itself.
true, the slide was somewhat dangerous,
with occasional casualties,
but almost always fun,
and never ever boring!
the slide took our breath away
with all its speed and unexpected turns,
a diamond in the rough,
sparkling under the shining stars.
(for Dad, love Margo)

Still thinking of the family and sending prayers.
As time passes, the hurt eases, and the tears will be shared with a smile, when you talk and think about Tom.
God Bless

Remembering Dad in his beautiful cheery garden, as I work in my own garden which has some plants from him!

Ted was a wonderful man whose motto was a day when I didn't bring a smile to someone is lost and he was always smiling, despite all he had to bear. I knew him at the Ottawa Curling Club, and we had long and rich talks after the games. He left us before his book was printed. I checked and can't find any on Internet. Please give me a chance to meet him again through his writings.

Dear Lucinda, Jennifer, Margo and Tom,
I was so sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. I am sure I spent almost as much time at your place, as I did at my house, growing up in Valois. Your Dad was a wonderful presence in my childhood.
Love, Deb

Sad to hear the news. I had the honour of meeting Ted in November and enjoying an hour and a half chat. We talked a lot about his book and his experiences. Thank you Ted for your service to Canada.

My deepest regrets and sorrow for the loss of such an amazing man, whom I know is kin to me and my Harris family here in the USA, from Richmond Virginia. My heart stopped as I saw his picture, for I relived the same emotions when I saw my dad's picture, that's how much they look alike. Plus they, as most all Harris men, are a symbol of Honor, community servants, protectors of family and country and our morals.
Please know that he will live in your hearts and minds and when you think of him, you will smile.
May he rest in peace with God, knowing he will be remembered and loved forever.

Dear Ted, I remember you best on a trip back from Mount Desert Island where you took us home via the side roads and gravel lanes, the better to explore. Thank you for that trip and for your explorer's spirit that woke me up wider to the world around me.
