Richard Canny Obituary
July 16, 1950–February 9, 2015
It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Richard "Rick"Canny after a three-year battle with brain cancer. Richard is survived by his sisters: Naureen Canny Bromley of San Diego and Sheridan Canny Quinn of Carlsbad, CA plus his angel of a neighbor, Katharine Inouye and two nieces: Erin Espinoza and Julie Persall and their families.
Richard grew up in South Pasadena, attending Holy Family Elementary School, LaSalle High School and U.C.L.A. for a degree in Engineering. Rick worked for Fleur Engineering as well as Cal Tech for 24 years in the operation of its Physical Plant.
Rick enjoyed golfing, sailing, skiing, reading and gardening as well as his Golden Retriever dogs. His family, friends and co-workers will forever miss Rick's sunny disposition, wonderful smile and friendly personality.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 11th, 11:00am, at Cabot & Sons Chapel Pasadena. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Humane Society or pet rescue organization.

I will never,never, will forget my good friend Rick. We worked together at Caltech for a little over 15 years and as well as working diligently for our employer, We played numerous golf courses in Southern California with the JPL Golf Club. And we played some of the finest links courses in Ireland with my brothers, Joe and Victor; and colleagues, Bobbie and Richard and Pete.
I made sure on the Irish trips that we visited the town of Innes in County Clare; and the town of Tralee in County Kerry, where Rick's Grand parents were born and raised. I can still see him with his video camera walking those narrow cobblestone streets. We had additional trips to Ireland and elsewhere on our Calendar; unfortunately we didn't have the time.
I will take credit for introducing Rick to "Old Bushmills Irish Whiskey' (Forgive me Lord), and I took Rick to the Bushmills Distillery in the town of Bushmills in the Northwest of Ireland where we toured the facilities and later joined in a whiskey tasting.
When we played in golf tournaments it was important that everyone in our favorite foursome was a decent golfer and was fond of a Wee Dram or two or three. We really had some nice outings.
Golf was never the same for me after Rick's passing, but I have some great memories.
Rick was a nice man; very smart, fun to be with, a very good golfer and serious about his faith.
I never heard Rick ever take the Lords name in vain.

I just now read Rick's Obituary; I missed it in the Star News on the 4th of April.It is very hard for me to believe he is not here and it still brings tears to my eyes.
