We lost a good man this week. Husband, father, coworker, friend. Let us take a moment to reflect on Al and what he meant to you.
Everyone reading this probably has a different thought or memory about what he meant to you. The positive outpouring of comments from all over the Department has been amazing. Emails, phone calls…… The common themes of them were
1. He always positive, proactive, unselfish and possessed to find a solution
2. Friendly and willing to share knowledge to those that needed it
3. Most importantly, he really cared about us, the mission and making things better
It is difficult to have someone so young leave us so early. He was always helping people and getting in the weeds with so many projects. He would spend hours trying to fix things. He had so much knowledge and experience. Those will be huge shoes to fill.
I can imagine that after he left us he found himself at the Pearly Gates. There was a line. A long line.
• He was patient for a while but finally that low growl most of us have heard started growing and becoming louder.
• Finally he could take it no more.
• He cut the line and approached St Peter.
• He looked at the huge dusty book St Peter was using and said I can help you with that.
• St Peter looked at him, scowled and said I've been doing it way for millenniums.
• Al said everyone says that…..move over… we'll just create this data base, throw it on a SQl Server…..
That is Al, making things better for us here and helping make things better for us when OUR time to leave comes
HERE'S TO YOU!

I met Al in 2002 at PennDOT while working on a long-term project. He was such a nice guy, so helpful and so willing to learn. I am proud that I got to know Al on a personal level. I remember him being so well-respected by his co-workers and the people who counted on him daily. I am saddened by the news of Al's passing and I wish the family love, support and the strength to continue without someone who will be missed dearly. Rest in eternal peace.
