Stephen Fackler Obituary

(Obituary authored by the deceased,
Stephen R. Fackler)

On August 27, 2016, a somewhat indolent cancer overtook the life of this 64.5 year old nitwit. For a career, he was a "phoney person" (working mostly with telephone systems) at Penn National Insurance. Often clueless and persnickety, he was not overly warm and fuzzy.
He is survived by two younger brothers and their families, Kenneth S. Fackler & wife JoAnn and Robert W. Fackler & wife Suzanne, both of Cheshire, CT.
He tried to be decent at his favorite activity -- jumping around while riding on good music (almost like dancing).
Although he enjoyed some religious inspired music, he believed we are all evolved from stardust. Privately, his carcass will go in the green burial section at Paxtang Cemetery, pushing up native vegetation.
Arrangements are being handled by Fackler-Wiedeman Funeral Home, Harrisburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Homeland Hospice, 2300 Vartan Way, Harrisburg, PA 17110 or Dauphin County Library System, 101 Walnut Street, Harrisburg, PA 17101.

I just learned of Steve's passing after returning to contra dancing after being away from dancing for one year. The best waltzer ever, I thank you for those magic moments of waltzing together. I will miss you! -- Shirley Mast

I was shocked and saddened to learn of Steve's passing. It wasn't until after he died, that I learned his real name. When I met him at the Harrisburg contra dance, he told me that his name was Fuzzy so that's what I called him. Despite what he wrote in his obituary, I always found him to be warm and fuzzy. He was a very experienced dancer and I was a stumbling novice but he was always kind, patient, and helpful. Apparently, he chose not to share his health problems with those in the contra dance community. He just showed up and danced and always seemed very happy. He lived his life to the fullest...to the very end. I admire his brave spirit. I extend my sincere condolences to his brothers and their families and to all those who knew him. He will certainly be missed.

Steve, I loved being your partner at contra dances. I am sure you knew I needed your definitive steps to stay on beat. I know you are happy and at peace. I am too thinking about your constant, quirky smile.

Ah my, you will be missed. Dancing with you was so much fun. You hummed, sang, interpreted the music and STOMPED. You were great at swinging and were always on time. I think that you were a little "early" in the dance of life- you arrived at the end too soon. Arden

Tireless, just kept dancing
Stomps and claps
All the girls and women wanted in on the fun when he was dancing
Timing and rhythm
Even ahead of the beat, especially when returning in for partner swing

He always knew what he desired and was happy doing what he wanted. He must be very happy that everything went the way he wished.

We danced with Steve for over 30 years. He had a truly amazing memory to be able to recall the hundreds of folk dances we learned over the years, just by hearing a few bars of the dance music. Always upbeat and smiling, he added his personal touch to many of the dances, and we will always remember these "nuances"!

Steve's obit reads as he lived his life...........full of fun and to the beat of his own drum. He, his smile, and sense of humor will be missed. Kathy S., co-worker at Penn Nat'l Ins. Co.
