To The Family of Sister Alice Edward Strogen...
Our hearts were truly broken to learn of Sister Alice's passing...She has been a blessing in our lives since we met her at CHOP in April of 1988 when our daughter Erica was first admitted...She was by our side through every surgery, through her passing and whenever we needed her wise words of comfort since Erica passed in Feb of 1991...Sister Alice visited us in Manasquan NJ and our phone calls and texts were a constant on Ericas' birthdays and anniversaries ...She has filled our lives with joy and love as no one else has...her passing has left a void in our hearts that we know no one can ever even begin to replace...We were truly blessed to have had her in our lives to guide us in faith and be our friend...She truly loved her family and the Lord more than anyone we have ever met...Heaven is truly a brighter place with her there...Rest in Peace Dear Friend...You will always be remembered and prayed for...and we will truly never forget you...for we are better people for having you in our lives...

My wife Nancy was a teacher at Mother of Divine Providence School in King of Prussia, and came to know and love Sr. Alice when she was missioned at MDP in between her tours of duty at CHOP. A little over 3 years ago, Nancy was catastrophically brain injured in an accident. During the dark days following Nancy's injury, she was hospitalized at The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and Sr. Alice would visit with us every day. Nancy has now been a resident of St. Joseph Villa for the past 3 years, during which our relationship with Sr. Alice has grown, because she also lived at the Villa until just a couple of weeks before her passing (she moved to St. Bridget's in East Falls to shorten her commute to and from CHOP). I'm usually with Nancy until after 9PM each evening, and as I would be leaving the Villa, I would often meet Sr. Alice on her way into the Villa after a 12 or 14 hour day at CHOP. It was never a quick "hello" with Sr. Alice -- we'd always talk for 10 or 15 minutes, and any encounter with her was incredibly uplifting. Our daughters, son in law, and grandchildren came to know her as well, and although our entire family will miss her terribly, we can only imagine the loss they're feeling at CHOP, and within Sr. Alice's SSJ Community. Our relationship with the SSJ's is one of the greatest blessings our family has ever received, and to have known Sr. Alice is a particular privelege and honor. I'm sure all who have known her consider themselves especially blessed as well.

One year ago today my son was diagnosed with cancer and subsequently hospitalized at Children's Hospital. In true keeping with Sister Alice's spirit, it is not a coincidence that I found out today her passing. It is like her way of telling me that she's still connected to my family. I am a single mother and when my son was diagnosed, she stayed right by my side, attending to our needs at every surgery and hospital stay, most recently this past October. When my child was taken to the first major surgery, she held onto me so I wouldn't fall over and she made sure that I looked after my own needs so I could be strong for my child. Saying Sister Alice was special isn't strong enough. She was an incredibly bright light and I will carry memories of her and our many conversations in my heart. One of our last moments together was a funny one. Liam had my iphone and while she and I were talking, he took a photo of her and we both started laughing. She was amazed how a little four year old knew how to operate a complicated function. I am very sad by her passing however, am comforted knowing that her numerous kind works would not go unnoticed by God. Her strong bright light will never be extinguised.

Sister Alice was so devoted to everyone. She came frequently to ill daughter, Jaclyn's bedside. She brought us warmth, comfort and prayer that helped us get by each day. She always prayed and had hope for Jaclyn which in turn we believe helped to heal or child when there was no hope. Now she 2 1/2 years old and making so much progress crawling and jumping around. We always sent weekly emails with pictures of Jaclyn and her progress and always got a response and a prayer. Our last response was 2 days before her passing. Sister Alice, you were the glue that held our family together and myself, my husband, Dave and our little miracle, Jaclyn Rose will always be eternally grateful for EVERYTHING you have helped our growing family with. You will always remain in our hearts and it souls. God, please watch over this precious child of yours as you have done for ours.

In 1995, our family met Sister Alice right before our 7 year old daughter Molly went into the operating room for a heart double lung transplant surgery. From the very first moment we met her, we knew she was our angel. For the next year she repeatedly saved our lives with her compassionate support. We are profoundly sad but rejoice knowing that she was welcomed into heaven by our Molly who screamed with her squeaky
voice "Sister Alice, over here let me show you around" I know heaven rejoices. This world has lost a Saint. Now I will pray to her.

I am honored to call Sr Alice a friend. I got to know her at CHOP in the 90's when I was a new nurse, and then through as series of miracles, she was there at my parent's parish - MDP. She got to know my family and bring a much needed light to the community there. She was a blessing when my father, and later my uncle passed. She had a wonderful laugh. And we all miss her.
The world is a little colder without her in it.

At the giant community that is CHOP - past and present - Sister Alice was a legend in the best possible sense. At an institution that is always in non-stop, high gear, her death stops everyone short, demanding and giving everyone pause, putting life and work in sudden and awe-filled perspective. Another gift she gave.

I knew Sister through her ministry at CHOP to families of sick children. Her dedication and love for the work she did was so evident.
She brought the love of Christ and comfort, prayer to those who really needed comfort, hope, and strength in time of illness.
She would come back to St. Joseph's Villa where she lived, and be willing to greet and talk to her fellow sisters of St. Joseph. A woman of faith, compassion and love, she will be missed. May her mission continue in Heaven, where she can intercede for all those who need her prayers.

We were blessed to have Sr.Alice with us during our most difficult times. She was a source of strength and hope on a daily basis. We can never forget her kindness and faithfulness . When we lost our son Francis she gave us support and we were privileged to have her give a eulogy which still brings comfort and peace 21 years later. She will always be in our hearts.

I was fortunate enough to be in the first class that Sr.Alice taught at Holy Angels .
Her impact was tremendous on so many children. She taught us to laugh, sing and love life. God certainly takes only the best. My prayers go out to her family and friends. Thank you Sr. Alice for making 5th grade the best year of my childhood!!

Our family met Sister Alice Edward at Our Lady of the Magnificat School in Kinnelon, NJ. She was a young vivacious Sister whom the students and the parents dearly loved. Many years later our daughter was referred to CHOP with her 9 year old son. It was nothing short of a miraculous blessing for her to find out that Sister Alice was the Chaplain at CHOP. When Beth Anne and Zack came there for a visit, Sister Alice "flew" to meet them. We will miss her and we offer our thanks to God for having her in our lives.

To a young couple who had already experienced the loss of their first child, and who were making CHOP a second home - their 2nd child had NEC, Sister Alice meant the world to us. She comforted us, gave us hope + made us feel that we'd live through the nightmare + someday be a normal, happy, healthy family. In the end, she suffered with us, but was able to give the eulogy at our Frankie's angel Mass. We'll never forget Sister Alice + what she did for us...

I had the privilege of meeting Sister Alice when she came to Mother of Divine Providence parish when I was younger. One of my favorite memories with Sister was our summer Youth Music Group we would do ever year when the main group was on break. There was always fun, smiles and lessons to be learned. She truly cared about everyone she came in contact with. I can firmly say I would not be the person I am today without Sister Alice's guidance. I'm sad that more people will not get to meet the wonderful person I have had the privilege to know. I will always cherish my memories of Sister Alice and the time we got to share. Rest in peace Sister Alice, we love you and will miss you.

To most of you, she was Sister Alice Edward....to me, however, she was always Aunt Eileen. Sister Alice Edward was my godmother. I was named after her. She and my mom were best friends growing up. I will miss her terribly, but am comforted because I know she will forever watch over my family. Her spirit will live on, in the good that she spread. Her laugh and smile would light up the darkest of rooms. RIP Aunt Eileen.

Sister Alice will live forever in the hearts of our family, and in the thousands of people she touched during her life and ministry. We were privileged to know her since 2008, and spent time with her only a week ago. I want to thank her family for sharing Sister Alice's life to the glory of her Lord, who she so intensely loved, and with us and all the families she was with in good times and bad. This is bad news for us, but Heaven is rejoicing. God bless you, , and bless the loving memories we all have of Sister Alice.
