Claude Shealy Obituary

Chief Master Sgt. Claude A. Shealy, Sr.
Columbia, SC
Chief Master Sgt. Claude A. Shealy, Sr.
Columbia - Our daddy, Claude Alton Shealy, Sr., 77, Chief Master Sergeant, US Air Force (Ret.) passed away at his beach house in North Myrtle Beach on Sunday, August 10, 2014, sounded by love and family. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 14, 2014, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1715 Bull St, Columbia, with Pastor Tony Metze officiating. At 1:00 p.m., Daddy will be honored with a military service and interment at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13, at Shives Funeral Home, 5202 Colonial Dr, Columbia.
Born on January 1, 1937, in Columbia, South Carolina, Daddy, known to all as "Dobbie", was the only child of R. A. "Pe-Paw" and Virginia "Me-Maw" Shealy. He met the love of his life, Gail, and married her on April 3, 1958 in St. Paul's Lutheran Church while she was on Spring break from Dreher High School. Of this union were born four children: Melinda, Lisa, Claude, Jr. "Chip" and Lori. Daddy worked hard all his life so Mom could stay home and raise their children. He worked for thirty-seven years as a senior accountant at the SC State Treasurer's Office, but his true passion was America and the United States Air Force. He proudly served his country and received multiple awards during his many years of service at McEntire Air National Guard Base, including the South Carolina Meritorious Service Medal.
Dobbie is survived by his loving wife of fifty-six years, Gail Lusk Shealy; children, Melinda (Coulter) Cotton, Lisa Shealy and fiancé, Rex Wicker, Claude A. "Chip" Shealy, Jr., Tayna Warsheski, Lori (David) Parker, Todd Shealy; grandchildren, Kayla (Ryan) Evans, Scott (Elizabeth) Parker, Erin Shealy and fiancé, Matt Forsell, Ethan (Lyndsay) Shealy, Emma Shealy, and Michael Cotton. Dobbie was the proud great grandfather of Harper Grace and Jackson Theodore.
A special thank you to Amedysis Hospice who allowed Dobbie's wish to be fulfilled so he could pass at home with his family at his side.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, the honor of your presence or your prayers be bestowed upon us. We invite you to share your messages and memories online at ShivesFuneralHome.com.

Claude was a special person to all lives he touched. I had the privilege to work with him for many years at the State Treasurer's Office. We loved to hear his stories of family and beach times. He blessed us with his presence and sense of humor. My prayers are with the family during this sorrowful time. May God's love, peach and comfort be with you.

Such a nice guy! Funny, friendly, and loved to laugh. Rarely met a stranger. My heart goes out to your family for your loss. But I would imagine you have so many wonderful memories to hold in your heart.
