John Horgan Obituary
Wappingers Falls - John J. Horgan, Jr., 74, an area resident since 1964, died on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the MidHudson Regional Hospital of Westchester Medical Center.
Born in Catskill, NY on April 16, 1940, he was the son of John J. Horgan and Susan M. McNulty. On September 9, 1961 he married Barbara Hillman in Brooklyn, NY.
John was a teacher and administrator with Wappingers Central School District for over 30 years. He was active in many volunteer and Board roles including Vice President and President of the NY State Certified Swim Official Association, the Board of Governors of the United Way of Dutchess County, President of the Board of Directors for the Wappingers Playgroup, and he served on the Board of Directors of the Vassar-Werner Home.
John is survived by his wife, Barbara; his children, John Brian Horgan of Hudson, OH, Ann Horgan and her partner Patricia Maguire of Arlington, MA, Chris Horgan and his wife Kris Ellen of Franklin Lakes, NJ, Joan Horgan of Orlando, FL, Maura Horgan of Newark, OH, and Claire Horgan Hanna and her husband Jeff of Malvern, PA; his 11 grandchildren, John Brendan, Stuart, Emma, Colin, Christian, Alexander, Kaitlyn, Henry, Conor, Grace, and Vivienne.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 7-8:30pm and Wednesday from 9-11am at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment at St. Denis Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the March of Dimes, 580 White Plains Rd., Ste. 445 Tarrytown, NY 10591.

My prayers & condolences to the family. Mr. Horgan was an adminstrator that made a positive impact on me at 16. He was respectful & kind during my years at JJHS. I still speak fondly of him & the impression he left. God bless.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any man's death diminishes me".
