Charles Mitchell Obituary

Charles Mitchell
OAKVILLE – Charles E. Mitchell, age 85, of Oakville passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family, on August 25, 2025. He was the devoted husband of the late Barbara (Ineson) Mitchell.
Charles (Butch) was born on March 4th, 1940 in Plattsburgh New York, the son of the late Edward and Mildred (Sampsell) Mitchell. He had two brothers and three sisters whom he loved dearly. He was a 1958 graduate from Croft High School in Waterbury. He worked at Pratt & Whitney for 34 years and was a volunteer Watertown firefighter for 25 years. Butch met the love of his life, his soulmate, Barb, at a carnival in Waterbury, CT in 1956. It was love at first sight for the both of them. They got married on October 29th, 1960 and were proud to live in Barbara's grandfather's home that he built himself. They enjoyed traveling, gardening, dancing the night away to their favorite bands, and going out to eat, although he loved his wife's cooking more than anything. He was an avid fisherman and craftsmen and loved to dance and listen to rock and roll and Jazz, especially The Rockin Heartbeats who he followed for almost 25 years. His favorite place to travel was to Lancaster, PA. He always seemed to have two things roll off the top of his tongue jokes and saying AGGHH. Butch loved spending time with his family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memory, he leaves behind his children: Mark and his partner Mariette of Thomaston, Charlie and his wife Andrea of Middlebury, Gary and his wife Sharon of Wolcott, and former daughter-in-law Denise and her husband Dan of Torrington. Charles and Barbara were blessed with six grandchildren: Rachel, Nicole and her partner Zoe, Danny and his wife Brittany, Brittney and her husband AJ, Carlie and her fiancé Alex, and Crystal. He also leaves 4 great-grandchildren; Harper, Gavin, Maeve, and Savanah, and one more on the way. He will be missed by his siblings, Joan Cashman and Joe, many nieces, nephews, and friends, including his longtime best friend, Tony. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years Barbara and their daughter, Kathleen, his brother Burt and his wife Joy, his sisters and their husbands, Anne and Hank Boisvert, Pat and Jim Paine, and brother-in-law Dick Cashman.
The family would also like to thank The Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center and Vitas Hospice Care for all of their support.
Relatives and friends may visit with the Mitchell family on Thursday, August 28, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Casey- O'Neill Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 742 Main Street, Oakville, CT 06779.
