John Wojcik Obituary

John Wojcik
December 7, 1939 - July 5, 2025
Pop John Wojcik, 85, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2025, in Cheshire, Connecticut, after a courageous battle with cancer. Surrounded by his loving family in his final moments, he left this world with the same quiet strength and warmth that defined his life.
Born on December 7, 1939, in Granville, New York, John was the beloved son of Stella and John Wojcik. He grew up in Proctor, Vermont, where he graduated from Proctor High School in 1957. Driven by a passion for learning and a keen interest in business and economics, he went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce and Economics from the University of Vermont in 1963.
John proudly served his country as an Airman First Class in the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1965. His time in the service instilled in him a deep sense of discipline and dedication that would carry through every chapter of his life.
Following his military service and college graduation, John embarked on a long and successful career in banking. His sharp mind and steady demeanor earned him respect throughout the industry. In addition to his work in finance, he shared his knowledge with others as an educator at Naugatuck Valley College, where he taught economics, basic business principles, and accounting. His students benefited not only from his expertise but also from his approachable nature and dry wit.
Outside of work, John-affectionately known as Pop-found joy in many hobbies. He was an avid collector of stamps and coins, pursuits that reflected both his attention to detail and appreciation for history. He loved tending to his garden, listening to old country music that stirred memories of simpler times, and watching classic westerns that echoed the values he held dear. A devoted fan of UConn Huskies basketball, he rarely missed a game and cheered passionately for his team.
Pop's beautiful blue eyes sparkled with mischief and kindness alike. His sense of humor could light up any room; those who knew him will remember how effortlessly he made others smile.
John's greatest pride was his family. He is lovingly remembered by his daughters Lynda Wojcik and Jennifer McCabe and her husband Jim; grandchildren Jordan Lindsey and her husband Dylan, Rae Mailly, and Kaity McCabe. Their lives are forever enriched by the love he gave so freely.
He was predeceased by his parents Stella and John Wojcik and by his brother Edward.
A funeral service will be held at a later date to honor John's life privately among family members.
May Pop's memory bring comfort to all who knew him. His legacy lives on through the laughter he inspired, the lessons he taught, and the love he shared so generously.

John and I were both living in a rooming house adjacentt to the UVM campus . I recalled that he used to sing some of the pop songs while we were walking back from the campus to our re our rooming house. We never saw each other again until about a decade ago when my wife and I decided Tony him a visit. We had been emailing each other regularly since and he had often expressed concern whenever he heard that was a wildfire in Southern California and I to him whenever there was a Northeaster in Connecticut. I didn't know that he was a coin in addition to a coin collector. I will always remember him as a kind and caring friend. It is strange that I was actually thinking about planning a trip to New England this coming fall to visit the few remaining classmates I still have in the area. Sadly, John has left us too soon. Johnny ( he was the only friend who called me by this. Name)
