Mr.Tarleton,

I remembered your kindness and your empathy towards me.
We use to have long talks about many subject matters and about current events that were relevant at the time.
Unassuming and unpretentious, you were wise beyond your years. I loved how you would undeniably admit your faults as a human being and never judge others for their shortcomings. That type of acknowledgement of one´s shortcomings, is a gift most of us don´t have.
You would always tell me that" I´m not a rich man with money and I don´t have degrees, but I´m rich because, I had a God fearing wife and although my children are not perfect, I´m blessed because they are good children that stays out of trouble and they know God, and they know Id whip they behind if they stray to far from God" Lol
You indeed were loved and gave love the best way you could even to strangers. Never met anyone until this day, that tried so hard to help people make better choices and decisions in their lives.
God blessed you with a long life and you were indeed needed! You are still needed! But your words resonate with all that had the pleasure of being in your company.
Thank you for your understanding and kindness. Rest easy.

My prayer for this Christmas season is to thank God for a Father and a Mother, who taught us about Jesus. Dad, you are sorely missed and Madear too. I´m so grateful that I learned the true meaning of Christmas. Therefore, I celebrate with a joyful heart, because of Jesus purpose for coming and what He has done, for all mankind. I can also rejoice in the fact that I will see both of you again and that is because of what Jesus has done. Praise God for the hope that we have in Christ.

Good evening Dad, I truly miss you so much. You are always in my thoughts and in my heart. I think about all the great saying you would tell us and how to treat people as we walk this Christian journey. We celebrated Juneteenth Day today and it was full of fun and excitement, we had a blast of a day. You would have loved to interact with other people and hear their stories. It it just like your story of survival with determination, resilience, strength and encouragement to make it in this life. It would have been wonderful to see all the positive progress we have made as a people since 2009, I wish you were here to be a part of the progress. The Juneteenth Day became a national holiday and was signed by the President in 2021. I know you would be extremely proud of your children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, just to see how they take care of each other, love and help each other, You were a great Father, teacher and mentor for many of us, and we are the wonderful people today because of your words about life. What a great legacy to leave for the next generation. I can still hear you saying you gal! Come here. I will always Love you DadLucille

Good morning,

if Dad was here now and could see his grandsons he would be so proud.
They are spending time with their children what an awesome job you've done not only for your son's to see and portray the wonderful man that you were but your grandsons as well.
We are approaching Father's Day and I would say Happy Father's Day DAD. You have done an awesome job and have left a legacy of wonderful, intelligent, handsome, respectful, Sons, grandsons and great-grandson who love the Lord.
You also have some beautiful, intelligent, wonderful, strong, who love the Lord, daughters, granddaughters and great-granddaughters who have learned so much from you Dad

Like I always say you're my hero, I could see you now smiling saying thank you Louise.
My children and I would always talk about you and laugh at the memories they would say when granddaddy said something he meant it no matter how we would talk to him and try to get him to change his mind. He would say" I said what I said and I mean what I mean".Lol
I will forever cherish the memories of you Dad and Madea with my children, grandchildren and great-grand children

Granddaddy,
It´s been a long time. I still come on here and write because I STILL love and miss you SO MUCH. A LOT has changed I told you We lost my dad . I have been a wreck over not having him here, but I´ve also been empowered remembering him, what he stood for, how much he loved us, and taught us. So as not to be a Debbie downer, let me share that my husband and I have a new baby girl. Her name is Madisyn Leigh. She´s a joy to have a around. I WISH both you and my dad were here to see her and Makayla grow up. I promise to share all that you´ve shared with me. They deserve to know of the strong men who made their mother who she is today. love you granddaddy.

You are truly missed and will always be on my mind and in my heart.

Granddaddy...it’s been 12 years but still feels like we just lost you. I’m sure you looking down and seeing all of the craziness, but since the last time I’ve written, my dad has passed. Honestly, I don’t know if I’ll ever be ok. You were so instrumental that I tell my daughter about you and make sure she remembers you although never having met you. Now that she’s lost her Papa, I pray that the impact you had on me is as strong, if not stronger than the one my dad had on Makayla.

Granddaddy! I’m pregnant again and well it’s another great grand that won’t meet you but will know everything about you.

Thanks for being an inspiration, a mentor, a great father and grandfather. I wish my girls and my husband had the chance to meet such a wonderful man. As Father’s Day approaches I think of you and my dad even more. Love you granddaddy.

Freeport Great wisdom pray father great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather wisdom out of this world to tell you what happened to him when he was a child to be 90 something years old and remember when he was a young boy that's Wednesday that's God wisdom that God give a pan he gave it to my father and my father gave it to his children and his great children and his great-grandchildren with the wisdom God gave him and he gave it to his grandchildren what he said to them as they became men as they became women

Hello Dad, it have been awhile since we talked. I miss our chats about life. The world have changed a lot from the last time we chatted. I believe society is opening their eye to the racial tension which you have experienced while you were growing up in the south. I remember we talked about it several times. Your insight about racism was on point, when you mentioned what is done in the dark will come to the light. After reading my bible, I know where you got that it from. Lol.

You often took me to prepare for the future, being young it did not register. Unfortunately, I am not as young as I was yesterday. I am preparing for my military retirement. Yes, dad, soon I will retire from the military after 32 years of excellent service. Thank you for be there for me through the years, months, weeks, days, hours and minutes. I could not have done it without your guidance. Your words resonated through my spirit on a continuous basis with a persistent mellow tone telling me "do not give up, it will pay off for you in the future, how faith son." My future is hitting me in my spirit, my heart and my face like a Mike Tyson upper cut. Lol. I have not been knocked out yet, I am still fighting the good fight.

Unfortunately, I need to go now from here but you are always with me.

Miss and Love you Dad

April 2, 2020

Good morning daddy, today is April 2, 2020 I am so grateful for the lifelong lesson that you taught me. We are in a coronavirus pandemic experience and I would have almost lost hope, had it not been for the lessons you taught me how to survive. I'm so glad you missed this time even though I know you probably would have told me stories about your upbringing and how something of this magnitude happened in your lifetime. Well, we are in lockdown mode and have to wear a mask and gloves when we leave the house so that we will not contract the coronavirus. I'm sure In time things will begin to die down and normality will be a thing of the past. I've learned to pray more, to talk less, and to be thankful for each day God gave me. So dad, I will say goodbye for now and I still miss you a whole bunch.

Good morning Dad, happy 100th birthday. That's what I would have called him this morning and said. However, 10 years ago he went to to be with the Lord. But his memories live on in my heart. There's time we still cry about the fact that he is not here physically but most of the time we laugh of the memories some funny, some not so funny.
Sayings like "I be John switch" or
when dad couldn't remember our names he would look at us and say "you gal you know who I'm talking about" or times when he would get impatient and didn't want to wait for us any longer he would get in this car and leave us. ( it's funny now. But if you was the one that he left it wasn't so funny then).
Many many more I will forever cherish them and share them with my grandchildren Saniya Younger 2 yrs and Amare Younger 11 months.
I would always tell Dad he was my hero he would just smile and say thank you Louise
I love Dad so much and I truly truly miss him

While at the home going celebration for Mr. Tarleton, I remember thinking, "Wow, what an awesome man." Everyone who spoke about him spoke so highly of him and expressed that he was such a man of integrity and wisdom. I even shared with a friend that God doesn't make them like that anymore (but I know that's not true - I think :) . . .

To the family: I pray that each memory of this great man brings a smile to your face, even if the smile is sometimes sprinkled with tears. I pray that each memory also brings gratitude to your hearts to God for blessing earth with such a MAN as Mr. Tarleton.

Tarleton Family,

I was never blessed with the opportunity to meet this man of God. However I've met a few of his children. I've heard stories about his love, and kindness. I truely know that Mr. Tarleton is rejoicing with his wife, and with the Lord.

Tarleton family, stay strong and be encouraged, and KNOW that your father has crossed the finishing line, in this race that we are all still running. He is not cheering you on from heaven, and waiting until you finish your race, and meet him at the finishing line. Be advised however, this this race is not a dash, but it's marathon. (the race is not given to the swift....but we've got to endure)

be encouraged my friends
and keep running!
God Bless You

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

My granddaddy handled the adversities of his life with humor, kindness and determination, and set an example for the rest of us to live up to. Words can’t express how much I cared for my grandfather and will miss him dearly. Although he didn’t have the same educational opportunities that we are afforded today, he was a man of GREAT wisdom. He taught us more about education and the value of education than we could ever learn in any school. Now it's time for those of us he taught so much to let him go. What brings us solace in this time of loss is first that he knew Christ and second that he hasn't stopped teaching-what he has taught us, about love, about determination, about hard work, and about taking care of one another because he lives in and through us all.
