Elton Pollock Obituary

Elton Thomas Pollock September 9, 1946 - May 25, 2016 San Diego Elton Thomas Pollock, 69, passed away on May 25, 2016 after a courageous 16-year battle with cancer.Elton was born on September 9, 1946, in Ft. Worth, TX to Robert and Virginia (Studebaker) Pollock. He graduated from Kearny High School in 1964. He married his high school sweetheart, Janet Lovelace, hours after graduating from the United States Air Force Academy. He then embarked upon an adventurous 26-year career as a test pilot in the United States Air Force that took him and his family all over the world. During his military career, he served as Commandant of the USAF Test Pilot School and flew over 40 different types of aircraft. After retiring from the Air Force, he and Janet rode their bicycles from Savannah, GA to San Diego, CA. He then worked for over 15 years in the aerospace industry. While Elton loved working, he was equally passionate about enjoying the outdoors and spending time with family and dear friends. He was an experienced scuba diver, a world traveler, a sailor, an expert prankster with a quick and often inappropriate sense of humor, and an avid mountain climber who summited many of Colorado's famous Fourteeners. Elton will always be remembered as one who lived life to its fullest. He is survived by his wife, Janet; his two daughters, Sheila Baker and Trisha Best; his two sons-in-law, Bruce Baker and Lawrence Best; his seven grandchildren, George, Alexis, Victoria, Thomas, Emily, Caroline and William; and his three younger siblings, Edmund Pollock, Roberta Wallis and Janice Young.Private services will take place in July. Interment will be at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO.

So sorry to hear about his passing--I absolutely loved him. I was his Crew Chief on F-15B 77-0161 at Eglin AFB, FL in the 70's & 80's and got to fly with him a couple times to California for AIM-9 missile testing. What a great Fighter Pilot and sad loss for our country! Also, sad I just found out 7 yrs later. Rest in peace Colonel with my highest Salute! CMSGT William C Popwell (Retired) USAF
