Howard L. Herbst

DALLASTOWN Howard Lindburg Herbst, 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 30, 2014, at Colonial Manor. He was the husband of the late Velma (Warner) Herbst for 63 years, until her passing in 2012. Mr. Herbst was born in Maytown on June 12, 1927, and was the son of the late Jacob M. and Esther (Mundis) Herbst. Howard was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a cabinet maker and retired from Kapri Kitchens. He was a member of Dallastown American Legion Post 605 and enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden and spending time at the river. He is survived by his two children, Linda Chronister and her husband Bob of Dallastown and Barry Herbst and his wife Kay of Wrightsville; two grandchildren, Eric Chronister and his wife Karen and Monica Chronister and her companion, Shaun Carman; and a great-grandson, Hunter Carman. He is also survived by a sister, Fae Smith of Dallastown; brother, Vernon Herbst of Delta; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers. All services will be private. The Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, Inc., Dallastown, is in charge of arrangements.
