Michael and I both worked on the board of the Ethnic Heritage Council (EHC)of the Pacific Northwest in the 1980s. It was great fun to work with him.
We both attended graduate school in Museum Studies at the University of Washington. He wrote his master's thesis on the EHC and earned his M.A. in the program.
I remember his Wee Bit O' Ireland Shop in Pioneer Square, and saw him quite a bit during the time he lived in Seattle. He was always civic minded, working for the good of the community.
His great involvement in Irish Heritage is something I admired, and I once attended a St. Pat's Day celebration at his invitation with the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick.
He was a capable, thoughtful and generous soul, passionate for the things he loved, and touched with Irish wit and humor.

To the Family of Mike O'Sullivan,
Our family's hearts go out to you over the passing of dear Mike. He was a joyful, optimistic and generous man who made a positive difference to Seattle and to the success of the Pioneer Square neighborhood. He gave of his time, talents and resources to raise awareness of Irish heritage in Seattle and to strengthen bonds between our city and Ireland.
Mike was a fighter and a survivor - always goal-oriented, always tenacious, and always fun! He was inspiring.
We hope and pray that comfort mercifully will bless you soon.

Maureen and I are really sorry to read about Mike's passing. He contributed greatly to Seattle's Irish community when he lived in Seattle and when he ran Wee Bit O'Ireland, and he was sorely missed here when he left to live in Allyn. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis - May his faithful soul rest at the right hand of God.
