George Sturdevant Obituary

George Almon Sturdevant, PhD, aged 78 passed away October 15, 2017 in Bakersfield after a near life long struggle with type 1Diabetes.

He was born June 30, 1939 in Taft, California to Hollis and Ellen Sturdevant. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Sue Ford Sturdevant, his daughter Julie Miller of Everett, Washington and daughter Margie Limbeck (Richard) of Snohomish, Washington, and his sister Marilyn J. Jones of Hendersonville, Tennessee. The Sturdevant family was active for many years in the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church aka Bakersfield First Assembly of God.

He was an accomplished French horn player and a member of the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra as a young man. He loved music and was also a trained piano tuner.

George attended elementary school in Taft before the family moved to Bakersfield. He graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1957 and attended Bakersfield Junior College before transferring to University of California, Berkley. George did his post graduate work in Chemical Engineering at Rice University in Houston, Texas and earned a PhD. After graduation from Rice he worked for Standard Oil Company and the Ralph M. Parsons Engineering Company.
