Brenda Carpenter Obituary
Feb. 27, 1949 - May 27, 2017
SOUTH BEND - Brenda S. Carpenter, 68, a resident of South Bend, passed away peacefully at 12:30 am on Saturday, May 27, 2017, at Healthwin Specialized Care. She was born on February 27, 1949, in Dyess Colony, AR, to the late James E. and Alice Mae (Mitchell) Dean.
Brenda is survived by sons, Dan Carpenter of South Bend, Edward (Tara) Carpenter of Niles, MI, Robert (Jamie) Carpenter of South Bend; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Brenda was preceded in death by her sister, Mary McWilliams; brothers, E.W. Dean, Bobby Dean, James Dean, Tommy Dean, Lonnie Dean; daughter-in-law, Kelly Carpenter on April 13, 2017; and one grandchild.
A resident of South Bend for most of her life, Brenda was a graduate of Clay High School and then completed her nursing degree at Ivy Tech. She began her nursing career at Healthwin, and she was also employed at Sanctuary at Holy Cross and other area nursing homes. Her biggest aspiration in life was to become a nurse and help older people. She retired in 2011 after 22 years as a nurse. She attended Grace Baptist Church. Brenda enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Funeral services for Brenda will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at Palmer Funeral Home-Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN 46635. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00pm on Wednesday at the funeral home, prior to the services.
