Gerald Norris Obituary

Gerald Ray Norris, Sr.

Feb. 1, 1949 - Feb. 10, 2017

SOUTH BEND - Gerald Ray Norris Sr., 68, of South Bend, Indiana, departed this life on Friday, February 10, 2017. Gerald was born to Walter and Mildred Norris in Dallas, Texas, on February 1, 1949.

At the age of five, Gerald moved to South Bend and attended Lincoln Elementary School and graduated from Central High School. In 1984, he met the love of his life, Barbara Woods, and they married on June 30, 1988. He was employed by the South Bend Community School Corporation for 31 years.

Gerald accepted Christ at an early age and was an Altar Boy at his grandfather's church, St. Augustine. He was a faithful member of New Life Fellowship Ministry for the past 22 years. He served on the Usher Board, Security Team, Men Stepping Out on Faith Ministry, sang in the Male Chorus, and Mass Choir. He was an excellent cook and caterer, which was his true passion. He loved to travel, was a die-hard Notre Dame fan, an avid scholar of African American history, and a true classic man.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 29 years, Barbara Norris; three children, Khrestin Norris of South Bend, IN, Gerald Norris Jr. of Clarksville, TN, and Jovani Norris of Atlanta, GA; six grandchildren, Alayah Norris, Jovani Norris Jr, Jay'da Norris, Caleb Norris, London Norris, Trevon Norris; and two sisters, Joyce Norris and Nina Norris-Landers of Dallas, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Mildred Norris; and two brothers; Walter “Red” Norris Jr. and Bruce Florence.

Services will be held at Pentecostal Cathedral COGIC on Saturday, February 18, 2017. Visitation for Gerald will be at 9:00 a.m., with a funeral ceremony at 10:00 a.m.
