SOUTH BEND - Helen Darnell Green, 82, of South Bend, IN passed away Thursday, April 27, 2017 in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 3, 1934 in Pryorsburg, KY to Thomas Schofield and Odell (Quisenberry) Schofield. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Estella James.

In 1943, Helen relocated to South Bend, IN. In the 1950's, she joined Pilgrim Baptist Church under Pastor Charles G. Rowlett, and remained a faithful member under the leadership of Pastor H. Gregory Haygood. Helen served faithfully as a Deaconess until her health declined.

In 1953, Helen graduated from Washington High School in South Bend. She then went on to earn a Practical Nursing License. She was employed for a time at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN until shortly after her marriage. Helen made several lifelong friends while working at Memorial Hospital whom she kept in contact with over the years. On June 24, 1967, Helen married Robert Green, who survives. She is also survived by her daughter, Kathleen Green of South Bend, IN; sister, LaVoda Walker of South Bend, IN; nephew, Michael James of Tolleson, AZ and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

Helen enjoyed good music, reading and spending time with family and friends. She was a devoted wife, dedicated mother, loving sister and loyal friend. She will be greatly missed by those who loved her.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at the Palmer Funeral Home-West Chapel, 2702 Lincolnway West, South Bend, IN. Graveside services and burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services.
