SOUTH BEND - Richard A. “Ricco” Bowman, 56, of South Bend, passed away Monday, November 7, 2016, in Memorial Hospital. Richard was born June 3, 1960, in South Bend, to Richard and Joan (Frohwerk) Bowman. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard O. Bowman. Richard is survived by his son, Eric (Starla) Bowman, of Mishawaka, his mother, Joan (Timothy) Gallivan of South Bend, three grandchildren, Deric Bailey, Kyla Bowman, and Kaylin Bowman, fiancée, Jamie Fiedler of South Bend, and two sisters, Gayle Carpenter, of Billings, Misssiouri, and Kim Bowman of South Bend. Richard worked as a machinist at Kessington Machinery, in Elkhart, IN. He was a 1978 graduate of LaSalle High School, a member of ABATE of Indiana, and Crumstown Conservation Club. Richard was always caring for others and loved by many and hated by none. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. Sunday, November 13th, at Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 14th, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 51490 Laurel Road, South Bend, with Rev. Gregory Fiechtner officiating. Friends may also visit with the family one hour prior to the service at church on Monday. Burial will follow at Saint Joseph Valley Memorial Park Cemetery, Granger. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of St. Joseph County, 2506 Grape Road, Mishawaka, IN, 46545 or ABATE of Indiana, P.O. Box 665, Bargersville, IN, 46106. I still think of you often! You truly are missed by so many! I would give anything to be back at BP and watch you walk through the door smiling as you talk some sort of "crap" You definitely always made early mornings better!

I Was 19 when I started working at the original club K in Granger, I was the new janitor. It was only a day or two before this guy people there called Bowman calls me over to the lathe he was working on. He recognized my last name from his high school days. Rick went to school with my cousin, We talked for a bit. Then he tells me to hang out for a min. He comes back with a brand new broom, hands it to me and says "Get back to work Clean my area first!" Followed by his signature laugh. I could never forget his laugh. The small crew that hung out at ole man Bays shipping desk for break time did a lot of laughing. Those were great times. Rick made me, the new guy at club K a part of those memories. That's who he was and im glad I had the chance to be one his many many friends. Rick Remembering the shocking news of your accident at this time every year at first, makes me sad. But I did get to say good bye to you in the icu that evening and I hope you know I was there. Thanks for your friendship and the laughs. RIP RICCO! Keep on riding. See you again someday.

My heart is torn. Rick was a very good friend of mine. Our last conversation must have been 4 months or so before he passed & im just now finding this out. I live down in TN. And our last conversation we laughed & remininced about the fun times we use to have. You will forever be missed & remembered for all the wonderful things you done for me & my family. We met when you were 9,you always had that sparkle in your eyes and twinkle in your smile, (a silly Coquillard kid with a heart of gold) .I was there way before RICCO.....your son(who you loved dearly....your first Harley.... You turned out a fine young man....helping all and respecting everyone . On to heaven you go my friend...see you on the other side.

When pulling weeds out front, I'm probably still going to look up when I hear a Harley come to a complete stop, to see if it's you with a friendly wave. Or, look to see if you're sitting at the counter at Allies. Everyone who met you is going to miss you. I'm not sure you knew the definition of a stranger, because they were a friend upon departing. I know you're doing fine in heaven. I wish your family the same peace here on earth.

I am at a complete loss for words! Ricco was an (almost) everyday morning customer who came into our Bp station. He was the most energetic, nice and caring man! We would always have his soft pack Marlboro lights waiting for him, and would make sure nobody got his donut! :) He talked about his son, grandkids, and that he was getting married! We were so happy for him. Our spirits here at Bp have deffinetly diminished after hearing of this awful news! We will always remember him! My heart goes out to his son Eric , his fiancé Jamie and his grandkids and entire family! You will truly be missed and never forgotten!
