Celelli, Daniel M.

Daniel M. Celelli, age 64, of Corning, NY, died unexpectedly on Friday, October 17, 2014 at Guthrie Corning Hospital. Dan was born on November 6, 1949 in Corning to Peter and Catherine Celelli. He married Sandra Corey on April 12, 1969 at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Corning. Dan was a loyal employee of Conrail, working as a conductor and engineer throughout this area. After retiring from Conrail he purchased "That Other Place" in Corning, NY, which he operated for the past 17 years. Dan loved sports, especially the NY Yankees and NY Giants. He timed his visits to his daughter in Baltimore to attend every Yankee - Orioles game. Throughout the 1980's he was very involved in Cinderella Softball and enjoyed coaching. He was an avid gardener producing sunflowers as tall as a house and an endless supply of peppers and cucumbers. He loved trips to Las Vegas with his wife and enjoyed the atmosphere of the casinos. Dan was a gentle soul who dearly loved his family, especially his two granddaughters. He had a soft spot for animals, giving many rescued dogs a loving home. He could always be counted on to give a helping hand to friends and strangers and was known for his positive and kind personality. After the death of his father, he lovingly and patiently saw to his mother's needs. His smile, laughter, sense of humor, and loving manner will always be missed. He is survived by his wife, Sandie; daughter, Melissa Celelli of Baltimore, MD; son, Daniel Celelli, Jr. of Corning; mother, Catherine Celelli; sister, Tina (Brian) Digiacomo; two brothers, Peter (Sandi) Celelli and Joseph Celelli; uncle, Theodore Haischer; aunt, Victoria Bonady; grandchildren, Ciera and Kendal Celelli; several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends John, Dale, Smitty, Brian, Darrell, Dan and Tony. He is predeceased by his father Peter R. Celelli and loyal companion Lola, his Saint Bernard. Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 24th from 4 - 7 PM at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 E. First Street in Corning. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 222 Dodge Avenue in Corning. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 435 East Henrietta Road, Rochester, NY 14620 or the American Heart Association, www.heart.org. Dan's family entrusted his care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.
