Brendan Tevlin Obituary
A Funeral Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. today, Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at Saint Philomena's Church, 386 South Livingston Ave., Livingston. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, N.J. Visitation was held yesterday at the Seton Hall Prep auditorium. Arrangements are entrusted to The Dangler Funeral Home of West Orange, 340 Main St., West Orange, N.J. 07052, and letters of condolence may be posted at danglerfuneralhome.com.
Brendan was born and raised in Livingston. He had just completed his freshman year at the University of Richmond, where he was a member of the Lacrosse Club.
Brendan was a talented bagpiper for the Essex County Shillelagh Pipes & Drums.
He was a 2013 graduate of Seton Hall Prep, where he was a member of the National Honor Society, Lacrosse Team, Ambassador's Club, Knights of Setonia and the Gaelic Club, where he served as president. He also served on the Student Council and was a member of the Math Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society and recipient of the Monsignor Tuohy Award for having achieved a GPA of over 4.0 for all four years at Seton Hall. He was also a Eucharistic minister at Seton Hall Prep.
Brendan enjoyed summers with family and friends in Lavallette, N.J., where he was an avid surfer.
Brendan was the beloved son of Michael and Allison Tevlin; cherished grandson of Barbara and Neil McNulty of Livingston, N.J. and Thomas and Carolyn Tevlin of Caldwell, N.J., and Lavallette. Brendan was a role model brother to Michaela, Brian and Sean. He is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and countless dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Brendan's name to Seton Hall Prep, 120 Northfield Ave., West Orange, N.J. 07052.

Didn't know Brendan but I'm sure his life and death have had a great impact on those who did know him. I remember the tragic circumstances surrounding his death. Didn't know Brendan personally. I'm sure he was a wonderful kid. I lost a Son at 17 years old and always wonder what might have been, and I know the Tevlin family feels the same. God continue to bless Brendan and my Son John as well. You are both missed.

I saw Brendans story on the news last night as his killer confessed to the crime. I graduated from UR and as I read the obituary, I am saddened by what the world is missing because your son is no longer here. You are in my prayers.

Your Wonderful Son is not forgotten, nor the emptiness you must feel. I too lost my Son 10 years ago, and never a day goes by without thinking of Him. I truly feel for your loss. I lost my 17 y/o son to violence about 10 years ago. No words can describe that feeling of loss. I pray for your family. Our GOD will surely care for your Son. This morning, for the first time, I saw your son's story on Fox and Friends. It showed Brandon's picture. I just read his obituary. I am so sorry for all of you. Sixteen days, I lost my best friend. I live in West Orange and drive on Northfield and Walker. I see that there is a memorial there for your son. I heard about the loss of your son this morning listening to PLJ, the Todd Show. I am embarrassed and shocked that I had not heard of the tragedy until now. I grew up in Livingston and a good part of our family still lives in town, as well as the West Orange area. Your boy was, is and forever will be the epitemy of a kind, good and loving American whose life was taken far too soon. 2 months have passed and I still can't get your son Brendan and your family out of my mind. You don't know me but I too have a son who completed his freshman year at UR. He didn't know your son but said he recognized him from being on a small campus. As I was getting him ready to return, my heart ached for you because that's what you should be doing too. So much sorrow for this young man and his family knowing that you are good people living your lives in a loving and compassionate way.
