DR. SAMUEL KUSHNER

Dr. Samuel Kushner Anesthesiologist, medical staff president at Union Hospital and private pilot, 74 Dr. Samuel Kushner, 74, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017 at Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains, N.J. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. at the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton St., Somerset, N.J., on Thursday, Jan. 12. Rabbi Eli Garfinkle of Temple Beth El will be officiating. Committal services will follow at Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge, N.J. Dr. Kushner was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pa., son of the late Abraham and Helen Kushner. He moved to New Jersey in 1972 and resided in Union and Westfield. In 2004, he settled in Somerset, N.J. Samuel was a graduate of Central High School of Philadelphia, Philadelphia College of Pharmacy & Science with a degree as a pharmacist and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. aDr. Kushner was an anesthesiologist and served as a president of the medical staff at Union Hospital. He also served on the board of trustees at Temple Israel of Union and was a member of many additional professional societies. Samuel was an avid pilot; he enjoyed flying his plane every chance he had. He also loved to ride his motorcycle, study aikido and to ski. He was a devoted husband, a loving father and an adoring grandfather; he will be missed by many. Dr. Kushner is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Dorothea Kushner; his daughters, Lynn Kushner and Abby Kushner-Goldman and her husband, David, and his adoring grandchildren, Maya and Benjamin Goldman.
