I remember Bill from High School, RJR, class of '54 with fond thoughts of how kind and gentle he was as a young man. I had lost touch of him in life after college but valued his friendship in high school and am very saddened at the senseless cause of his death. May he rest in peace and may you his family take solace in the way he lived the good life and made impressions on others that he himself probably did not fully realize.

I have been very close to tears since earlier today when I first heard about Dr. Norman. I went from Northeast High School with him to help him open CHS. He was probably one of the top 10 people on this earth as far as I am concerned. I don't think anyone could come close to being the wonderful principal that he was. Both teachers and students loved him. It's hard to believe that he is no longer on this earth, but we will meet again in heaven. Many people will miss you dearly. Even though you have been far away in distance, you have never been far away in thought. There are many saddened hearts at this time. May peace be with your family.

What a pleasure to have had the opportunity to work closely with Bill Norman as a student opening Northeast together and then later as a teacher at Chesapeake. He wrote in my Northeast yearbook that I should be "proud that the school bears the marks of my hard work and dedication", but it was his wisdom, guidance and leadership that made it possible.
The sky is a little brighter these nights. May you
rest in peace and my thoughts & prayers are with your family.

Dr. Norman (a.k.a. Captain Chesapeake) was the perfect principal for the new Chesapeake High School in Anne Arundel. He was wise enough to allow the new students to vote on school mascot, colors, fight song, etc. and knew when to interject. He helped me out immensely throughout my three years there -- he helped teach me how to lead and was wise enough to teach me that it was OK to fail, it built character and it was important to understand/learn how to bounce back from failure/adversity. He will always be fondly remembered by all of the students -- at the end of the day, he really made a difference in this world which is really all anyone can ask. He will be sorely missed.

Mr. Norman was an amazing Principal. He made me smile when I would see him in the hall or during my "office aid" period during my senior year. He was kind and truly cared about his students and staff. Chesapeake High and those who were lucky enough to know him are better because of him. He was the best Principal of all my years in school and he was the standard for how I measured the Principal's of my children's schools. So far, not one has even come close !!!!!! Our prayers are with his family and friends.

There are so many entries on this page--what a testament to the man who spent his life educating children. We were 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 when we met Mr Norman. In the big scheme of things at most 4 years. Here we are in our 40's, 50's and 60's talking about what an impact he had on our lives and how he made us the people we are. He demanded that we respect ourselves, our parents, our school--he held us accountable. That is why we think so highly of him. How lucky we were to cross paths--CHS 1978.
