Edgar Auernheimer Obituary

Edgar Willis 'Ed' Auernheimer, 95, of Goessel, collapsed and died outside his home on Monday, August 17, 2015. He was born on November 13, 1919 at his parent's home on RFD #3 Burrton Kansas. He was the son of Albert Christian Auernheimer and Mary Magdalena Ewert.

He attended Pleasant Plains District 65 Country School, which was located just across the section from their home, so he and his brothers and sisters walked across their pasture to go to school. He attended two years of high school in Halstead Kansas before the family moved to Butler County Kansas where he graduated from Augusta High School in 1938.

Edgar married his high school sweetheart, Helen Maxine Taylor, on June 8, 1941 in Augusta Kansas. Ed joined the Navy during WWII and served on the USS Pinkney. Helen lived in Alameda while he was aboard ship and after his honorable discharge they moved to Inglewood CA. where their first child was born.

In summer of 1947 the family moved back to Kansas as Ed had to get back to farming! In 1959 they purchased the Towanda Laundry Mat and managed it for 4 years before the next move to McPherson and a year later to Goessel. At this time Ed was working at Hesston Corporation (now AGCO) as a welder. The next move was to Hesston in January 1970. Ed retired from Hesston Corporation (now AGCO) in June 1985. In 1989 they sold their home and became full time RV'ers for 14 years before settling into an apartment in Goessel, where Ed resided until his death.

Ed's favorite past time was playing pool which he did every week day. He also loved gardening and had just returned home from tending his garden when he died. Ed was also a charter member of Grace Fellowship church in Wichita.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, all of his siblings, two daughters, and two grandchildren.

He is survived by two sons; Lynn Auernheimer [Maxine] of Canton Kansas, Anthony 'Tony' Auernheimer (Audrey) of Watts Oklahoma, a daughter, Carol Gibbens of Newton Kansas, 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will take place at the Miller-Ott Funeral Home in Hesston, 107 S. Lancaster Ave. from 10 am. to 10:45 am. Sat. August 22, 2015 followed by graveside services at Hesston Cemetery, Hesston Kansas at 11 am. A Memorial has been established with Grace Fellowship Church in Wichita in care of the funeral home.
