Joseph Satkowski Obituary
Born in Avoca on Dec. 12, 1945, son of the late Joseph and Anna (Sledgeski) Satkowski, Joe was a member of Queen of the Apostles Parish (SS. Peter and Paul), Avoca. He was a 1963 graduate of Northeast High School. He worked for Topps Chewing Gum for more than 40 years until his retirement. For many years, he served on the Avoca Borough Council of which he currently served as president.
Satch was a member of the West Side Social Club, the Avoca American Legion, the Avoca VFW and the Dupont Polish Club. He was an avid sports fan and also enjoyed coaching softball for the Greater Pittston Softball League. His children, grandchildren and cat, Sam, were everything to him. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend, and will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his children, Joseph, Avoca; Barbara Andricks and husband, Mark, Duryea; and Jason and fiancée, Marcia, Dickson City; his grandchildren, Justin, Kierstyn, Ian, Brenna, Lily and Chloe; his sister, Jean Chacko, Avoca; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Clara Tedesco.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 9:30 a.m. from Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 at Queen of the Apostles Church, Hawthorne Street, Avoca, with the Rev. Phillip Sladicka officiating.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. Interment will be held at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Avoca.
Joe's family would like to thank Dr. Akaya Smith and the nurses and staff of the University of Pennsylvania Hospital for the kindness, compassion and care they provided.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 2300 Adams Ave., Scranton, PA 18509.
