Michael Schmid

1931 - 2016

Michael R. Schmid, 84, of Longmont, Colorado died February 3, 2016 in hospice at the Peaks Care Center after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born December 14, 1931 in Springfield, Minnesota. Michael's passion was his family and grandchildren, his Catholic faith and medicine. He served his community as an Osteopathic physician for 42 years. He was part of the merger between the Osteopathic Hospital of Longmont and Longmont Community Hospital which was then renamed Longmont United Hospital. Michael loved nature, fishing, skiing the Rocky Mountains, baseball, gardening, music and travel. His greatest attributes were truthfulness, steadfastness and humility. Michael is survived by his wife Jeanne Schmid, his children Cindy DeSantis (Jim), Dr. Peter Schmid (Anne), Mary Beth Cipoletti, Anne Marie Schmid, Emily Schneider (Jeff), and Allyson Volpe (Santo). His grandchildren are Lily, Andrew and Peter DeSantis, Chloe and Sophie Schmid, Alexander, Nick, Ben and Chip Cipoletti, Henry Schneider, and Sofia and Emily Anne Volpe. He is further survived by his brother Clem Schmid (Mary Ann) and his sister Nancy Herzog (Paul) and his nieces and nephews. Rosary in the chapel at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at 3pm on Friday, February 12. Visitation will be held at Howe Mortuary from 4pm - 7pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30am on Saturday, February 13 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Reception to follow in Benedict Hall at 11:15am. Lunch will be served.
