Paul D. Hogan

Hogan, Paul D. RENSSELAER Paul D. Hogan, 66, died suddenly on Saturday, November 12, 2016, after being stricken at his home. Born in Albany on October 12, 1950, he was the son of the late Peter and Kathleen Kowsky Hogan. Paul was raised in Defreestville and graduated from St. Jude the Apostle Grammar School in Wynantskill and LaSalle Institute in Troy. He later graduated from Manhattan College. He was employed by New York State, St. Anne's Institute and was an addictions specialist at Leonard Hospital in Troy. He then was employed by the New York State Department of Corrections at Mt. McGregor Correctional Facility in Wilton, and Hale Creek Correctional Facility in Johnstown, as senior counselor in their substance abuse programs. Later in his career, he transferred to the central office for New York State Corrections in Albany, where he was supervising offender rehabilitation coordinator before retiring in 2014. Paul enjoyed photography, golf, bird watching and was a huge New York Yankees and New York Giants fan. He was a member of the Audubon Society and the Cornell School of Ornithology, and contributed to Wounded Warriors and several animal rescue organizations. Paul celebrated 40 years sobriety in September, and spent his life in a fellowship of work and self-sacrifice helping others to achieve sobriety. He was the husband of Susan M. (Hynes) Scott-Hogan for 25 years, whom he met through a mutual friend, Bill W.; stepfather of Jaime D. (Nancy) Scott of Port Washington, N.Y.; stepgrandfather of Anna and Nico Scott; brother of Maureen (Angelo) Serafini of Guilderland; uncle of Stoyka and Danase Serafini. Relatives and friends may call at the Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham, on Friday from 4-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
