M. McWhorter Obituary

BEDFORD - M. Scott McWhorter, 74, of Bedford, died on Aug. 11, 2012, at Hanover Hill Healthcare Center.

She was born in Baltimore, the daughter of John S. and Mildred P. (Pope) McWhorter, and earned a Peabody Medal when she graduated from Eastern High School in that city. Scott attended Randolph-Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, Va., where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and was president of Sock and Buskin, the drama club. After graduating in 1959, she went to New York City, working in television spot sales and later in promotion for John Blair Television. In 1966 she came to Milford, as sales coordinator for Gifts & Art Associates, which was then the largest wholesale manufacturers' representative in the gift field covering New England and New York State.

Scott moved to Bedford in 1972 and worked for several years as bookkeeper for the New Hampshire Easter Seal Society. In 1978, she and Arline Blair joined as partners in Paint & Patches, producing crafts which they sold at craft fairs in the Southern New Hampshire area. She was an active member of Country Crafts Co-op and Hillsborough County Craftsmen. Scott joined The Craftworkers' Guild in 1997 and was very involved with that group, handling their publicity for meetings and craft shows for many years. An avid golfer, she was a member of Intervale Country Club and the New Hampshire Women's Golf Association. She spent part of many summers in New Harbor, Maine, and belonged to Wawenock Country Club in Walpole.

Family members consist of a supportive group of wonderful friends, including Joyce Starry and Mitzi Frueauf and several cousins.

I had worked with Scott for many years at NH Easter Seals. She was one of the kindest and most energetic people I've known. She always was ready to help anyone and did it with a smile. She will be missed greatly. Jan Ross

Saddened to hear about my cousin, Scott. Wish it wasn't so far to NH from SC. Will be there in spirit to celebrate her life with her friends. So glad we were about to connect on e-mail and messenger the last 12-13 years. Mama and Daddy enjoyed her and Arline's visits and when they went to NH to see Scott. Scott's courage and strength is a true inspiration. We cousins will always be bound in spirit. Praying for comfort for those who mourn. Remember the PROMISE is COMFORT. Peace, Kaye Pope Schwarzmann

I'm sorry I won't be there to help send you on your final journey. Our friendship grew over the years, and your courage and hope became an inspiration to me. I was lucky to be among your "family of friends". Rest gently with those you love. Dotty

Dear Scott,
You fought your battle with grace, courage, optimism and good spirits no matter how difficult each phase was over all the years.I will never forget the loving hug and kind words you gave me after my husband died. We will all miss you and are sad that you are gone. But, I'm glad you are done fighting your illness and can now be whole, united with Arline and loved ones who have gone before you; you can rest in God's graces, love and light, and be forever in peace. Smile down on us now and then; and watch over your dear Angels here on earth who were your "rocks", "family" and selfless supports. Thank you for being you.
My deep condolences to your dear and close Angel Friends and to your relatives.
With much love,-Maria
