CHARLOTTE HENNESSY Obituary


CHARLOTTE SMITH HENNESSY  (Age 86)  
On Saturday, July 15, 2017, of Hyattsville, MD. Beloved wife of Joseph Hennessy; mother of Joseph Hennessy, Jr. and Andrew Hennessy; grandmother of Angelina and Alexandra Hennessy. Also survived by her siblings, William Smith and Frances Vitrano and their children. In the mid 1960's Charlotte helped pioneer the use of computer software in National Aeronautics and Space Agency's (NASA) robotic mission efforts to explore the Universe. She made significant software development contributions to our nation's first space telescope, the Orbiting Astronomical Observatory. Charlotte then chose to devote herself to raising her two children, sons, Joseph and Andrew. She found a third career for the 1990's as Adjunct Professor of Computer Science at Montgomery College in Rockville Maryland. She has greatly enjoyed her retirement years with family and friends. Charlotte has brought value to and felt fulfillment in all that she has done. Relatives and friends may call at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring, MD, (Valet Parking), Thursday, July 20, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Camillus Church, 1600 St. Camillus Drive, Silver Spring, MD, on Friday, July 21, at 10:30 a.m. Interment George Washington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to National Parks Conservation Association, 777 6th Street, NW, Suite 700, Washington, DC 20001.www.COLLINSFUNERALHOME.com
