FRANK MARTH Obituary

MARTH FRANK F. MARTH (Age 86) On Tuesday, October 17, 2017, of Silver Spring, MD. Frank F. Marth, 86 passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Montgomery General Hospital. Frank was born and raised in New York City, the son of Austrian immigrants Rosa and Frank S. Marth. After skipping two grades in school, Frank graduated from high school in 1947. He then proudly served his country in the US Army in the Korean War. When he returned from the war, he attended night college at Monroe College and started work at IBM. In 1957, he married Patricia McQuillan who he met on a blind date. They lived in New York City for the first years of their marriage, then moved to Plainfield, NJ and later to Rockville, MD where they remained for over 20 years. Frank retired from IBM in 1991 after 35 years of dedicated service. Following his retirement, Frank and Pat enjoyed their home in North Fort Myers, FL before returning to Maryland in 2011 to be near their beloved grandchildren. Frank was always younger than his years and was amazingly active throughout his lifetime. He was a lifelong baseball fan and played softball well into his 70s, often serving as the "ringer" on his senior citizen teams. He played racquetball several times a week until he was 82, and amassed numerous medals at the Senior Olympics. He also had a great love of sports, television, and movie trivia. He enjoyed going to movies and traveling, but most of all, he cherished his grandchildren. Frank is survived by his wife Patricia with whom he celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary in September. He is also survived by three daughters, Susan Frey of FL, Nancy (Ted) Aposporos of Gaithersburg and Ellen (Tim) McCarthy of Severna Park. Frank is predeceased by his only son Kenneth who died in 1990. He leaves behind seven grandchildren, Michael, Abigail and Caroline Aposporos, Heather Frey, and Maeve, Maura and Sean McCarthy. Frank is also survived by his sister, Frances Gombocs of St. James, NY, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
