ANNA GRANT Obituary

ANNA ELIZABETH GRANT "Lilo"  April 28, 1927 - January 4, 2013
Lilo Grant passed away peacefully at her home in Silver Spring, Maryland on January 4, 2013 while surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of Lee Grant, recently deceased on October 26, 2012. Lilo is survived by sons, Peter (Sheila), Stephen (Maryann), and daughter, Lisa (David), as well as by her eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Heather, Bridget (Chris), David, Kelly, Charlotte, Jack, and Meaghan. Lilo was the beloved daughter of Georg and Anna Schlagenhaft and is also survived by her brother, Walter (Anneliese), as well as nephews Walter, Engelbert and Rolf, and a niece, Helene...all currently residing in southern Germany. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother (or "Oma"... grandmother in German), as well as loyal friend, walking partner and avid bridge player. Lilo was a past member of the Women's Club of Chevy Chase and The St. John's College High School Mothers Club. She served thousands of hours as a volunteer at Anne Arundel Medical Center, Holy Cross Hospital and MedStar Montgomery Medical Center. She is also remembered for knitting hundreds of baby blankets and sweaters for newborns. The family will welcome visitors from 12 p.m. on Saturday, January 12 at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament; Western Ave. at Quesada St. NW, Washington DC. Mass in celebration of Lilo's life will follow at 1 p.m. She will be interred, along with her late husband, Lee, in a double ceremony in Arlington National Cemetery at a date yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made in Lilo Grant's name to: The MGH Foundation at The MedStar Montgomery Medical Center, 18111 Prince Philip Drive, Olney, Maryland 20832. www.COLLINSFUNERALHOME.com

This is not the same Mrs. Grant that taught at Congressional Elementary. She did teach a few things to her children growing up on Glendale Rd. and then Thornapple Street...both in Chevy Chase. In fact, she was a helleve teacher.

Lilo and Lee were the perfect neighbors and will be missed by the entire neighborhood. Tom and I are especially lonesome without them.

Pete, as I said she was a courageous lady leaving Germany and her family behind in Germany, even in those difficult times, after WWII to start a new life. Really nice with the dual burial...classy! Plus she made great lasagna! Can't imagine what her weiner sch. must have been like. God Bless!
