HOWARD COPELAND WILLIAMS

WILLIAMS HOWARD COPELAND WILLIAMS, Ph.D. (Age 94) On Monday, January 18, 2016, of Fort Washington, MD. Beloved husband of Blanche Williams; father of Stephanie Williams and Howard Copeland Williams, Jr.; grandfather of Howard Copeland Williams, III and Jameson Martinez; also survived by godson Al Miller and a host of nieces and nephews. Howard, a native of Quitman, GA, left Brooks County to pursue a bachelor''s degree in agricultural education from Georgia State University (Savannah State). He was a World War II veteran in the U.S. Army and later received his masters and doctorate in agricultural economics from The Ohio State University. Howard was a professor at North Carolina A&T University and The Ohio State University. In 1961, he served as a visiting professor of economics at Nommensen University in Indonesia sponsored by the Ford Foundation - National Lutheran Council. In 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson appointed him as a member of the National Agricultural Advisory Commission for a three-year term. He moved to Washington, DC, in 1971 to work as agricultural economist at the U.S. Department of Agriculture where he served a two-year appointment as senior agricultural advisor in the Executive Office of the President for the Office of the Special Representative for Trade Negotiations. He retired from the government in 1987 and pursued an interest in real estate. Friends may call at Grace Lutheran Church, 10928 Indian Head Hwy, Fort Washington, MD, on Tuesday, January 26 from 10 to 11 a.m. where Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Quantico National Cemetery.
