James G. Farrelly  
James G. Farrelly, age 76, died at home in Rockville on July 8, 2015, after a struggle with esophageal cancer. He received his PhD in Biochemistry from University of Tennessee. at Knoxville and his BS in Chemistry from Manhattan College in New York City. Dr. Farrelly initially conducted laboratory research in chemical carcinogenesis at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge, TN, and Frederick Cancer Institute, Frederick, MD. He subsequently reviewed anti-viral drugs at FDA, Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, Division of Anti-Viral Drugs, and became Pharmacology Supervisor. After retiring from FDA he sang in 3 Rockville choruses and participated in various volunteer activities directed toward supporting native wildlife habitats and improving the environment. His parents, James Farrelly and Peggy Naughton, Irish emigres, married in Manhattan. They and one sister, Mary Farrelly, have passed away. He is survived by his wife, Anne Goodman; three daughters, Mary Miller, Margaret (Peggy) Farrelly, and Marion (Mimi) Featherston; their mother, Marion Farrelly; two sons-in-law, Kevin Featherston and Mitch Miller; six grandchildren, Rebecca and Ben Miller, James Farrelly, and Brenna, Erin, and Molly Featherston,; his sister, Kathleen Rowe, and two nieces, Joyce Gruskin and Jeanne Halpin. No services are being held.
