It was Ken who first tried to lead me to Christ. I was a horrible, ugly teenager and all I did was mock him and his faith. 15 or so years later he was the first person I called to tell him I was now a CHRISTIAN. I am a shining star in his crown among many. He never wavered he always preached the good news of JESUS and it is because of him that I was lead to the truth. Ken ... I miss you ... I can't wait to see you again. I love you brother. GOD rest your beautiful soul!!!!!

Five years have passed so quickly, but we still remember Ken's unique character and persona and the joy and love he brought to so many as he shared himself and his faith. He was the oldest Steward grandson and I was the oldest Steward granddaughter--we had a common relational and spiritual bond we shared with each other.,

Ken was my spiritual brother and a dear cousin. He was the firstborn male grandchild and I was the firstborn female grandchild to Hurff and Anna Steward.
We had a special bond and spent a lot of time together in the summers at the farm. He shared his faith, some considering it quite radical, and also his love to his family and friends. That is the Methodist pragmatism making itself evident through practicing his faith and exemplifying it through works much as James taught in the New Testament. I often still remember him by using and applying a book of religious quotations as well as a book with a synopsis of each book of the Old and New Testament that he gave me decades ago. His memory lives on in the hearts of those who loved him on his fifth anniversary from this earth--he always had HOPE--Heading Onward with Patient Expectation!! Enjoy Glory, dear cousin!

i continue to mourn the passing of Ken Steward, but I am glad that he is buried near the bishops' lot in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Baltimore near Robert Strawbridge and Francis Asbury. I am sure that heaven has afforded him the opportunity to converse with the historic figures he admired. May the fire of the Holy Spirit that rested upon Ken continue to bring renewal to our beloved United Methodist Church and remind us of the rich heritage of Strawbridge. Art Thomas

Ken's reverberating, "Glory to God!" -- during a sermon we both heard in the early 90s -- was part of my introduction to him. Though I know we will miss him in the flesh, we can have no doubt about the angels rejoicing at his home-coming . . . and his joy at seeing our precious Savior and all the host of beloved witnesses around the Throne of Grace.
I am so happy to see the comments of beloved friends we have in common from noVA, DC and MD, though it's been too long since I have seen most of them in person.
Ken, truly you are in the Fullness of Love and Joy, dear brother in Christ, and I thank God for you . . . for your light; for your vibrant, abundant, lively life; for your gifts and graces; for your love; for your holy boldness; for the Lord's favor upon you, especially in adversity, and for your sacrifice in and for Christ Jesus on behalf of the Gospel.
I'm praying that your family and all who love you are comforted and encouraged in spite of you being gone from the flesh. . . and that they have the complete comfort of the assurance of your presence in the Spirit of the Lord, now and always. Alelluia!
Glory to God!
Amen and amen.

I met Ken while we were both attending Wesley Seminary. I worked for Ken doing landscaping over the summers. His enthusiasm for the Lord was off the charts. I had him do his first person portrayals frequently at the churches I served. He was a very special person and I will really miss him. I'm so glad he is with Jesus.

We have known Ken since 1984 when we met at the Aldersgate Conference in Kalamazoo MI. He loved Jesus with a passion and was a prayer warrior. He knew his United Methodist history and loved the church with a passion also. Ken you will be missed by us and by Aldersgate Renewal Ministries.

I feel blessed to have known this servant of the Lord. We would engage in many different conversations over the years & when doing so he would remind me of who I am, someone to be shouting God's praise, mercy and forgiveness from the mountaintops to all who will hear! Amen & amen! He was a God-fearing man who didn't hesitate to stand up for his Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ. Ken, may you rest peacefully in your Saviors arms.

We have been friends with Ken for many years. He was a groomsman at our wedding in 1976. He helped us on several occasions with garden projects and furniture moving at our house when we lived in Kensington, MD. He was always willing to help whenever he could. He even played two parts in a Jim Bowie Dramatic Reading written by Jack a couple of years ago at Grace UMC. Ken was an all around good, God fearing person. We looked forward to receiving his hand made Christmas cards every year that he delivered to us himself and always gave us "10 minutes" of prayers as a gift. He is now where he has always wanted to be...with the Lord in Heaven. He was a unique individual that will be missed!

I knew Ken from several different perspectives and found him to be someone who encouraged and energized me in my own faith because of his enthusiastic love of the LORD. I particularly miss seeing his portrayals of Jesus' apostle, Peter!

I am saddened to learn of Ken's passing, and grateful that he is now out of pain and all discomfort. Thank you, Ken, for your infectious enthusiasm, for always being willing to listen though we seldom agreed, and for the example of your devotion. Thank you, God, for Ken.

Dear Family,
What an outstanding Spirit-filled witness for Jesus Christ Ken was. I had the privilege of serving with him at the Strawbridge Shrine and long before that met him as "Robert" when he visited my home church. Though it will be sad not to fellowship with him any longer in this world, I will always remember him when I look up to see the evening sunrise and sunsets and rejoice in the reminder of his spiritual presence wherever I go.
In remembrance and in our Masters arms

Ken has been our dear friend for many years, and we will sorely miss him. He loved his family and felt their love for him. May our Lord comfort them and also Ken's friends. Ken's bold faith and witness has impacted hundreds (perhaps thousands) of people, including us. I (Mary) was especially touched by the many times we received a Christmas card from Ken in which he wrote that he had prayed 10 minutes for us. I know that he ministered to folks (doctors, nurses, etc.) who came into his hospital room earlier this year, sometimes letting them know he would be praying for them for 10 minutes. I have done this several times this year in Ken's honor, and in memory of Ken, I plan to develop a habit of praying for people in this way. I invite others who read this note to do the same. What a difference the world will be when we lift up each other in prayer.

Sometimes there are great prophets who break through the darkness and impact our world with the Word of Christ in a radical and vibrant ways. I count it a blessing to have known Ken Steward, a man like that. I mourn for his loss, but know that he now sees his Lord face to face. Thank you Ken for being a voice crying in the wilderness.
I met Ken when I was about 8 years old and remember being awed at his presence. Now much later, he was a good and faithful friend. I will miss his zeal and electric personality.

In a very real way, it is sad for me to hear of Ken's death. Ken had a unique and spirit led ability to step into the persona of Robert Strawbridge and take all who listened into the fervor and enthusiastic soul of the first preacher of the Wesleyan Movement in America. He was a faithful steward and clearly understood sanctifying faith as well as being a unabashed voice for the saving power of Jesus Christ. His active work as a member of the Board of the Strawbridge Shrine will be missed. No doubt, he and Robert and Elizabeth have connected and as have Robert and Elizabeth, Ken will continue to inspire those of us trying our best to keep their evangelistic, soul saving, and, dare I say, church saving message alive. Ken was my "Easter Angel" when I served Trinity UMC in Frederick. He arrived well before the sun, put on a robe, and emerged from the shadows of a mausoleum asking "Why do you seek the living among the dead?" Just because I asked him to. Rest in your savior, Ken.

How sad I am to learn of the passing of Ken! I have served on the Strawbridge Shrine with Ken since 1994. We loved his reenactments of Robert Strawbridge, his tireless service to the shrine and its repair. The Baltimore-Washington Conference will miss his powerful witness to Christ and the beliefs he held dear. He was a firebrand for the Lord and embodied the ideals of Robert Strawbridge to the end.

Matthew 22:37 Jesus said unto him, "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul and with all thy mind." This verse was on our daily calendar, June 26, the day Ken passed. Believer and unbeliever will remember his fervent, sincere faith and the love and light he showed to others.
