Dear Fenwick and Ellen, Our deepest sympathy is with you on the loss of your dear boy. We saw how you loved him and cared for him every minute, and he was already shining that love outward into the world. He did wonderful things in the short time he was given. We're heartbroken that this bright spirit had to leave us so early. Love,

Dearest Ellen and Fenwick. Words cannot capture my sorrow and shock to have learned of Lowell's death. It has been uplifting and no surprise at all to learn that this joyous, creative, brilliant and generous boy whom I knew with Saul had maintained a trajectory into his young adulthood that already had him making a real impact on his world. I have such fond memories of him and you all, so pleased that Lowell and the both of you were such an influential part of Saul's childhood. I send my love and condolences as you do the unimaginable and start to live with Lowell as a memory and as a lost promise of true greatness. I will always think of him as great and getting greater. I look forward to the chance to connect directly and hear of the years I missed.
Embracing you both for Saul and me,
Josh

Dear Ellen, I am thinking of you and your family hoping you find strength and somehow continue this life that is full of pain...I am so, so sad your son's life was cut so short. But, it seems even in his short life he gave you so much.

Dear Fenwick and Ellen--there are no words possible to bring you comfort and yet your friends want to comfort you. So sorry for this gigantic loss. Love your way.

Dear Ellen, I am so sorry for your loss. Such a life simply gone. So good to know that he was able to leave a valuable message and imprint about friendship for all to see in his too short time on earth. In Judaism we say, "May his memory be a blessing". I hope this offers you some comfort during this very difficult time.
With much sincerity,

I have only known Lowell for two years but he could make you feel like you had been friends for life. We met at orientation for UMD the summer before college, and we were so happy to realize we would be around the corner from each other in our freshman dorm Anne Arundel Hall. Even after I left UMD, Lowell kept in contact with me and made sure I felt like part of the family. You'll never find someone more compassionate, bright, and enthusiastic as Lowell Ensel. I mourn the loss of a friend, but in the words of Lowell's father, the world has lost so much more.
