My mom could still play the piano, without looking at the keys, even after she had Parkinson's disease for over a decade. RIP, Mom. she started playing when she was 3 years old, and I remember that she could in her adult years "play by ear" - she would hear a song on the radio, think for a moment or two, then play the whole song on the piano (transposed for piano).

Mom was the fifth child born to Nellie and Edward Bruhn, right in the middle of the Great Depression. She was very intelligent, she graduated 4th in her class of over 400 at Harding High School in St. Paul, Minnesota. She had a scholarship to attend college, but instead she went to work right after high school as a secretary to support her parents because her father was out of work.

I am om's oldest daughter. Mom was the organist for a Babtist church in Minnesota for 19 years. She didn't get paid for her service, but I think she should have. She worked for the Minnesota State Highway as a secretary for 9 years. She was musically gifted, she started playing the piano at three years of age. I remember when she would hear a song on the radio, then sit at the piano and think for a few minutes, then play the song - except not in its original form, she would boobgie-woogie it up.

Thank you Auntie for taking care of me when I came to live with you and your family in 1965 when I was three years of age. I know I had to have been a handful and you loved me anyways. You already had two small children and one on the way. You were such a spiritual woman and I have fond memories of going to Sunday school with you. I lived at your home for 3 years and started kindergarten and you walked me to school that very special day. I am grateful, a couple of years ago we had a long talk. I thanked you again for taking care of me and that I loved you very much. I have comfort knowing you are in no more pain and I will see you again. Love, Lisa Ann
