MARY TAYLOR Obituary

MARY LOU HEISE TAYLOR (Age 77)
Teacher, Caregiver and Friend   Mary Lou (Heise) Taylor of Silver Spring, MD died on April 29, 2017. Survived by family, friends and thousands of students, she will be remembered as a woman of strength and purpose who knew the source of her strength and the object of her purpose.  Mary Lou was born 1940 in Ferndale, Michigan to the late Claude and Evelyn Heise. The youngest of seven siblings, she attended Mercy High School and graduated from the University of Detroit. A life-long advocate of the arts, she taught ballet to fund herself through college.  Mary Lou's vocation was teaching and caring for others, and she did it with passion and grace. She spent more than five decades educating and inspiring students in classrooms and homes around the world, to include 32 years as a first-grade teacher at Thomas S. Stone Elementary School in Prince George's County. She also volunteered countless hours as a Girl Scout leader, Civil War living historian, driver for Meals on Wheels and Extraordinary Minister at St. Camillus Catholic Church. At home, Mary Lou was a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She leaves three children, seven grandchildren, one great-grandson, five brothers and many others to celebrate her legacy of creativity, generosity and hope.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 4, 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Blvd., Silver Spring MD. The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 5, 10 a.m., at St. Camillus, 1600 St. Camillus Dr., Silver Spring, MD.

A Brother's Respect
The joy we felt those many years ago
Became a something elsea spark that lit
A lot of firesher care a lava flow
Of teaching, helping, lifting others, bit

By bita lifetime lived of caring for
The innocent, the needy and the souls
Whose hunger stirred her heart. Like Him, she bore
The suffering of others, tho' her goals

Were always to inspire learning, hope
To grow young minds and feed those hearts, to make
Our world better than it's beena rope
To climb upso she wasand never fake.

Her smile lit so many lives, that fire
Will outdo anything she would desire.

A delightful dear lady, a warm and engaging woman who dearly loved her family, whom she was so proud of. She brought heartfelt joy to everyone fortunate to know her when she was engaged in anything involved with Civil War living history! Mary Lou made a believer out of everyone with her very love of life and the many activities that she engaged in. We will miss her dearly, but Heaven will be much sweeter when she comes home. We are profoundly sad for your loss.

I worked with Mary Lou at Thos. S. Stone Elem. for several years. There were a lot of very talented teachers in that building, and Mary Lou was one of the very best: sincere, dedicated, tireless. I am saddened to hear of her passing and send my condolences to her family.
