MARY NEUHAUSER Obituary

MARY VIRGINIA NEUHAUSER
February 26, 1922 – July 2, 2014
Resident of Silver Spring, Maryland

Virginia Neuhauser, 92, passed away peacefully, but unexpectedly, on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at her home in Leisure World, Silver Spring, Maryland.

Virginia was the daughter of William Luther Clark and Myrtle Johnson Clark. Born on February 26, 1922 in Covington, Kentucky. Although Virginia spent her childhood in Columbus, Ohio, she enjoyed idyllic summers with her brother, Charles, at their grandmother's farm in the Blue Ridge Mountains of northern Georgia near the rural town of Dial.

Shortly after graduating from high school Virginia joined the War Department as a secretary and moved to Washington, DC, where she spent several years working for the Army Ordinance Department in the newly constructed Pentagon building. She met her future husband, Frank Neuhauser, on a sailing trip and they were married on February 3, 1945.

Frank and Virginia and their young family lived successively in Schenectady, New York, Fairfield, Connecticut and Bethesda, Maryland as Frank's work as a patent attorney took them to various General Electric sites. In 1957 they settled in Potomac, Maryland where they lived almost 50 years before moving to Leisure World.

Virginia was very active in her parish churches. At Saint Jane Francis De Chantel Church in Bethesda she helped organize various activities, including the yearly church fair. Frank and Virginia were founding members of Our Lady of Mercy Church, Potomac where they contributed their time to many aspects of parish life, including being ecumenical ministers. In their retirement Frank and Virginia also spent time helping at the Byron House nursing home. Virginia was also very active in the Maryland Right to Life and spent 15 years working in the local office as a volunteer.

Outside of church Virginia and Frank enjoyed golf, bowling, and swimming at the local country club. When not otherwise occupied they also enjoyed working in the outdoors, especially on brilliant autumn days raking leaves and preparing the yearly Christmas party for their Chapel Road neighbors.

Virginia was preceded in death by her brother Charles, her husband of 66 years Frank and their infant son James Arthur.

Virginia is survived by children Charles, Linda and Frank of California and Alan of Silver Spring. She and Frank have five grandchildren Christopher, Eddie, Stephen, Laura and Elizabeth.

Friends are invited to the celebration of Mass on Friday, July 11 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Church, 15663 Norbeck Blvd., Silver Spring, MD. A viewing will be held prior to Mass at 10:30 a.m. Following the services we invite you to remember the life of Virginia Neuhauser at a reception in the parish hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Shady Grove Pregnancy Center, 16220 Frederick Rd., Gaithersburg, Maryland 20877.

We are so sorry to hear of my Godmother Virginia's passing. We had the pleasure of visiting with her last Christmas with our new granddaughter Margaret. It brought back so many memories of the wonderful times our parents had over their lifetime. She was always the most special person to us.
We're sorry we couldn't be there for her funeral but so glad Beth had the chance to go for us. We know the loss you are all feeling but you can rest in the knowledge that they are all together now in heaven.

To the Neuhauser Family,

We feel the loss of this very special lady. She had a wonderful zest for life. It showed in the way she promoted, defended and supported the life of the unborn. Virginia will be sorely missed.

To the Neuhauser family,

Your mom was one of the nicest, most gracious women I ever met. She was such a good friend to my mother, Ellen Tuohy, for so many years. I have many good memories of her but my favorite is the fact that she and your dad gave us a ceramic chicken tureen for our wedding that Vince and I still love all these years later. It is a real conversation starter on the dinner table, let me tell you.

Our hearts go out to your family at this sad time but please know your mother is remembered very fondly.
