PAUL KILCARR Obituary

KILCARR PAUL THOMAS KILCARR, SR. "Paul" (Age 85) Of Williamsburg, Virginia died of natural causes on July 24, 2015. He was the devoted father of Marianne Kilcarr Umstead, Paul Jr., and Kevin and beloved husband of Regina "Jean" V (Looby) Kilcarr. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his Grandchildren Ashley Umstead Brown, Joseph Kilcarr, Lauren Umstead Schmidt and his great grandchild Marlee Brown and his brother John Kilcarr. He was preceded in death by his brother Andrew Kilcarr, his sister-in-law Barbara Kilcarr, and his mother Mary Kilcarr. Paul and his brothers, Andrew and Jack, graduated from Manhattan College in New York City. Paul took over as head of the family at age 15 when his dad Patrick J. Kilcarr passed from this earth too early in life. His brothers would always remark that "my brother is the one that raised us". Upon graduation from school and marriage to the love of his life Jean, Paul pursued his career in defense contracting as an engineer. He and Jean traveled the world having Marianne in Wichita, KS, Paul Jr in Kaiserslauten, Germany and then back to New York for the birth of Kevin. Once back in the US, Paul took a series of defense contracting positions ending his career with Westinghouse. Paul enjoyed his gardening to the point of being awarded a certificate as a Master Gardener. He loved sharing the bounty of his harvest with all his friends. He was very outgoing and always willing to help a neighbor with anything they were trying to accomplish. A devote Catholic, Paul did some very serious soul searching in his later years and was very content with his next stage in life. In his last days, he was happy and content with moving on to join Andrew and his mother. A celebration of life and service will be held from 12 Noon to 3 p.m. on August 15, 2015 at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plain Rd., Williamsburg, VA. 23188: (757) 565-1141 The internment will be on August 22, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Columbia Gardens Cemetery, 3411 Arlington Blvd., near Glebe Rd. We have been away for the past month. When I called Paul to confirm our lunch for next Friday, his phones were disconnected. We then discovered that Paul had passed on July 24. We are so sad that we couldn't see him on our trip to Williamsburg. We have known Paul since 1966. Paul was a good friend to us and in particular to the Navy. Our sympathy goes out to the family. We will think of him fondly.

Ray and I were so very blessed to have known you. We will remember you with love. Your Irish eyes that twinkled when you smiled, your love of God, family, friends and gardening were an inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to know you. Rest in peace. Love, Ray and Judi Slye

Paul was always a delight. For 15 years I shared a weekend a year in his company in Canaan West Virginia. An easy companion who always had a smile and a kind gentle word. A wonderful cook and a servant in the best sense of the word. He made a difference to each of us. We will miss him.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any mans death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.

Paul will certainly be missed! He was a great friend and neighbor that would do anything for you. He would always stop by just to say "Hi" when we would come down to the Northern Neck. He loved his gardening and loved to show off his crops. He made the best jelly in the world that my son just loved. I will never forget the gardening tips he gave me and my family. He was truly a great man that loved all people. Our sincerest condolences to all of the Kilcarr Family.
