SUSAN ODELL Obituary
SUSAN LAMBERT ODELL (Age 65)
Passed away on April 13, 2017, at Holy Cross Hospital. She graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and went to work as a Forester in the US Forest Service. She retired in 2007 as the National Coordinator for Rural Community Assistance for the USFS. She was the Lay Leader of her church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vance Leon Lambert, Sr., and Ivy Jean Lambert. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Curtis Earl Odell, and by her son, Christopher Lambert Odell. Also surviving her are three sisters, Audrey J. Lambert, Nancy L. Hatcher, and Valerie L. Hatcher, as well as one brother, Vance Leon Lambert, Jr. She will be interred at the Trinity Cemetery located on her family's farm in Bland County, Virginia. A memorial celebration will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017, with visitation at 10 a.m. and the service at 11 a.m., at the Hughes United Methodist Church, 10700 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring (Wheaton), MD.

Our deepest sympathies to Curtis and Christopher in the loss of a wonderful wife and mother.
I was Deputy Forest Supervisor during Susan's tour in the Big Bear Ranger District.
Susan was the first female Ranger on the forest, and her professional approach to management of the district paved the way for other females to attain leadership positions in resource management.
Susan will be missed by all who knew her.

Dear Curtis and Christopher, My deepest sympathy to you and Susan's entire family. I have many wonderful memories of discussion with Susan, both while we worked together in Big Bear but also after she moved to DC. She was a wonderful, thoughtful, compassionate, intelligent person. I admired her dedication and passion. My prayers are with you today and will be for many days into the future. May those prayers and the love and prayers of other friends and family hold you up now.
