THERESE RYAN Obituary


'YAN THERESE GAMACHE RYAN Therese Gamache Ryan passed away quietly on Father's Day, June 21, 2015, at Riderwood Village, Silver Spring, Maryland. Therese was born September 24, 1924, in Southbridge, Massachusetts. She married Bennett Yarrow Ryan, Sr. on April 9, 1946, in Manhattan, New York. Therese is survived by her grandson Matthew Anderson Ryan, wife Megan (Shrader) Ryan, and great-granddaughter Madelyn Rose Ryan; and grandson Bennett Yarrow Ryan, III, and great-grandchildren Cody Ryan and Courtney Ryan; preceding Therese in death are her husband Bennett, sons John Ryan and Bennett Yarrow Ryan, Jr., and brother Stanley Regis. Therese served in the Navy during WWII where she met her husband, Bennett. She was employed as a secretary at the University of Maryland's Sports Department, and was then hired by the Washington Redskins. After several years with the Redskins, she returned to work for the University of Maryland's Sports Information Office as secretary to the Director of Sports Information. While still employed by UM, Therese earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Maryland in the early 1990s. Therese was an active member of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hyattsville, Maryland, and frequently participated in services as a reader of the scriptures. She and Bennett were enthusiastic members of the Terrapin Club and season ticket holders and fans of the Washington Redskins. In addition to having been a loving wife, mother and grandmother, Therese particularly enjoyed antiquing, traveling, collecting rare books, gardening and, caring for her dogs, Kimba and Amber. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 7501 Adelphi Rd. in Hyattsville, Maryland, on September 30, 2015, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Arlington National Cemetery at 2 p.m. Donations in Therese's memory may be made to St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hyattsville, Maryland.Donations in Therese's memory may be made to St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hyattsville, Maryland.
