Last week, I just changed laptops at work and was going through old photos that I have saved - and looking at photos of Dr. A and Rubeus and Hermione and pictures he shared of Smokey and Spartacus. I still miss him and think of him almost every week - and smile. He is still here in my heart. Love to you William, to your family, and to all you touched in your time here with us on earth.

Uncle Bill, and as we called "Wild Bill", and I spent many summers together in West Center Harbor, New Hampshire. In would arrive with H.T. and Billy and we enjoyed playing touch football on the front lawn. Spending time swimming at Lake Wakewan and enjoying his "tarzan demonstration, and fun at the beach. Boating on Lake Winnipesaukee and going out for ice cream in the Green Cadillac Deville Convertible. We loved Uncle Bill and the boys. We will always remember his Teddy Kennedy imitation. Our sympathies to Aunt Cookie, H.T., Billy, and their families.

Doctor A was an all-around wonderful person – he gave his time to speak to community groups, he supported his church, he adored his family, he delighted and was delighted by his students, he was crazy about his dogs, he reveled in going to the gym with colleagues and bantering about sports, cars, clothes or anything really – in short, he was a person with an infectious appreciation for everything in life. You couldn't be in the room with him and stay in a bad mood.
My life has been better for having known him, and my heart is with “Mrs. A” and his whole family.
I'm imagining that where he is now, he is smiling ear to ear in his big green convertible Cadillac, with Doug Shear, Fred Saint, Smokey, and Spartacus.
When I googled his name to find this site this morning, the “Rate My Professors” website came up – I clicked on it out of curiosity. And one of his students summed it up pretty eloquently:
“Professor A is an extremely nice, intelligent, and lovable man. He is also a very sharp dresser.”
I hope that someone showed him that – it would've made him smile.

Bill brought so much hope to our campus. His glass was not only half full- it was a well spring. As a colleague, Bill was always encouraging. He took optimism to the extreme. It was tough going into work on a Monday if the Patriots won over the weekend. Even when they lost- he had a positive spin on the game. They lost, but they won. Deep down he was a spiritual man with a Huck Finn-like sparkle in his eyes. I always enjoyed listening to his stories about growing up in Boston. People say that after someone out of the ordinary is born "they brake the mold." In other words, there will never be a person like them ever again. For Bill there never was a mold to begin with. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all of us at Montgomery College. There is no stopping a force like "Dr. A." Prayers and peace to his family and friends. Jay Marciano

They don't make them like William anymore. His cheerful nature has always brought joy to the
lives of everyone he touched. We know you miss him terribly, and we miss him just as much. I
will always think back on how welcome he made me feel when I first met him in the office. We
will continue to honor his memory and have you in all our prayers. Please remember us if you
need anything. You are not alone. We are with you. The best way to honor someone who is not
with us anymore is to continue living our life and keep their memory alive through everyday
events. Knowing William, I am sure he would have wanted that, and expected nothing less from
each of us.

Your husband translated Greek words on something I found in my Dad's safe after he passed last Spring. I will always remember him for doing this for me and my son, Geoff. Sending my sincere sympathy to you and your family. When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure.

What I will always remember best about William is his positive, upbeat attitude, and the 12-year-old little boy side who was just on the edge of popping out. I also will always admire the long and loving marriage that William and Ethel had. A role model for the rest of us. The world will be a poorer place without him in it.

My favorite memory of my uncle bill was in the mid 1950s when he showed up out of the blue at his older brother's house (my father) with his brand new Oldsmobile Starfire, with the extended rear bumper that you COULD SIT ON, it was so big! - it was the greatest car, and I am guessing in retrospect that he loved showing it off to his older brother! Very very sorry for Ethel's and his children's and grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's loss....Ted Anagnoson (Santa Barbara, California)...
