John and I were neighbors in Amado, AZ. We were both in U.S.Customs, he was an Inspector and I was a Patrol Officer. Great neighbor and good guy to share a beer with. Sorry I didn't keep I touch. I retired and live in Murphy, N.C. now.

Dear Ruth, Joyce, John & Jeff;
We received an email about your loss of John while traveling. It is hard for us to believe he is gone. We remember our trips into the desert from Amado, building the fence and buying chickens. Our love to all of you.

To the Kehring family: I am so sorry for your loss. Even though I never met John in person, we have been in occasional contact over the last 10 years through our common interest of genealogical research, and attempting to find a connection between the Chicago Kehring's and Wisconsin Kehring's (my husband's family). Although we never found the direct connection, I was recipient of John's generosity as he shared documents and information that he had collected. I will truly miss my online friend.

Ruth, Joyce,John and Jeff, your Dad was a great friend and his passing will leave a big space in all our lives. We were in SATU at Camp Elliot together for a few years and shot together for a long time. He was a real competitor and a very helpful team mate if you ever needed help. Mom, Dad, my wife Norma and I co hosted the retired Navy Competitive Shooters Reunion in Tucson in 1995 and had a wonderful time. God Bless You All and friends we shall remain. John is my first cousin, but I only met him once about 2 years ago, when he generously shared the family genealogy that he had spent years amassing. He was a truly wonderful man and his family are in my thoughts and prayers.

I worked for John at the San Luis POE. Last October we happened to meet at the Yuma Hospital where my wife was dying. We reminisced for a few minutes, great moments. I certainly understand your emptyness and grief. God Bless You! Richard Akerman
