Zach Sobiech

Obituary

LAKELAND, Minn. (AP) - A Minnesota teenager whose song "Clouds" became an Internet sensation has died after battling a rare form of bone cancer.

Zach Sobiech (SOH'-bee-ak) of Lakeland died Monday at his home, according to a CaringBridge post by his mother. He was 18.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports his family thanked people who "listened with their hearts" and helped Sobiech "bring his message and his music to the world."

Sobiech began writing songs of farewell to family and friends last fall. His first song, "Clouds," has received almost 3 million YouTube hits.

The catchy tune inspired tributes and covers, including a celebrity video.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Church of St. Michael in Stillwater.

Not sure what to say?

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief. I was only a child when Zach’s story came to light. I had heard his song a few times when I was still a kid but as I grew older I lost touch with the song. I couldn’t listen to it without feeling so sad. It was so sad to hear about his passing. Thank you for being part of my childhood. We miss you so much. I didn’t know you personally but you have made so many memories and I hope you are doing better because now you are in the...

Zach, you were such a strong person and reading your moms book to watching the movie on your life is so heart wrenching. In school I get the honor of doing a book report on your moms book Fly a Little Higher. It's so sad seeing you go so soon but you were a strong and talented young man.

I remember when you first released "Clouds" and the comfort and hope it gave me. I have followed your story since that time and even though it hurts my heart that you had to go so young... It makes me happy knowing that all these years later you are still touching people's hearts with your story.

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always.

Thank you for sharing zacks story my heart aches for you all , he´s watching over you and guiding you every step you take god bless you all

I took two weeks to read - Fly a Little Higher - I cried through most of it. As I finished reading and still crying, my radio station played Top 40 songs for this week - Amazing Grace - came on. It was so comforting to me. I feel Zach sent me that song.
