I want to send my condolences to the entire Simmons family. I worked with Sherwin as his billing assistant for five or six years at Steel Hector & Davis. He was a great person and one of my very favorite people I have every worked with in my 15 or so years at the firm. He will be sorely missed.

Dear Simmons Family,
It gave me great pride to serve Mr.Simmons as his pharmacist for the few years (in cutler ridge)that i have known him - he always had a jovial/upbeat personality...even in the wee hours of the morning.
It was great knowing him - he will be missed

Dear Simmons Family:
I had the grand pleasure of being one of Professor Simmons' students at the University of Miami Law School's LL.M tax program and after graduating from the program had the further honor of meeting with him at many a lunch and breakfast meeting at the Miami City Club. Professor Simmons was to me a teacher, mentor, and an example of what a lawyer, husband, father, and man should be in this day and age. I will miss dearly my meetings with him. My prayers are with him and your family during this time of loss.

Uncle Sherwin, as all of the entries in this guestbook confirm, you were not only a great lawyer, but a great person as well. You were a model of success both publicly and privately. Thank you for showing me what a true "family man" looks like. I will miss you.

Professor Simmons was a great law professor not only because he was a stellar lawyer, but more importantly because he genuinely cared about his students and always went the extra mile to help in any way he could, often in a way that is extremely rare. Throughout my years in law school, he was undoubtedly my favorite professor. He will be deeply missed by all of his students at the University of Miami School of Law.

Mrs. Simmons and family,
I knew Sherwin from Steel Hector & Davis. He was so genuine and always had time for a visit even if he was busy. I think he liked people almost as much as his Buccaneers. He was a kind soul and will be missed by many. My deepest sympathy.

I would like to express my sincere condolences to the Simmons family. I had the pleasure of working with Sherwin at Steel Hector and Davis, and came to know his great kindness and compassion towards those less fortunate than him. He was highly respected throughout this community and legal profession. His wit and humor would bring a chuckle to all. Sherwin was first and foremost a southern gentleman, a great attorney, and an extraordinary man. We were truly fortunate to have had such a man in our lives. My prayers for God’s comfort are with his family during this very difficult time. Sherwin, you will always have a very special place in my heart and thoughts. Thank you.

My deepest sympathy to the Simmons Family, he was always so proud of you all. I worked with Sherwin at SH&D and I will greatly miss the many technology challenges Sherwin would come up with. Never mind the walking over many boxes in his office to check out the latest scanner, printer, database, spreadsheet, etc. Truly a wonderful lawyer and friend who will be missed by me and many!!

Mary Anne, Sherwin, Stephen, Amie, Lisa and all your loving family - you continue to be in our thoughts and prayers. You were all blessed to have Sherwin as your husband and father, son-in-law, brother, uncle, etc. We feel very fortunate to have gotten to know him over the past seven plus years. There was nothing "put-on" about Sherwin. He always told it as it was & that was it. We loved his honesty & integrity and will truly miss him at family gatherings. I'm sorry he won't be here to meet his grandson, but I'm sure Sherwin Palmer Simmons III will carry on some of his wonderful traits! We love you all, "Aunt" Cathy & Captain Bones.

Dear Mary Ann, I worked with Sherwin at Steel Hector & Davis for many, many years. During those years I got to know him and respect him for being a wonderful colleague, and friend. He was very much in love with you....I remember once for your anniversary I helped him create a cd of your favorite romantic songs....he was a true gentleman. I am truly saddened to know that we have lost such a wonderful and intelligent man.
My only consolation is knowing that he is now reunited with his sister.
God Bless you and your family.

What a kind, gentle and professional person. Sherwin, you and I came to know one another professionally almost thirty years ago. Our relationship grew into a good friendship. You were my savior for many years. Most recently through your kind expressions of love and support on the passing of your friend and my husband, Marshall.
Sherwin, as your beloved wife, Mary Anne, has said to you, "Go with God". Your legacy will not fade. Thanks for being our friend.
Our condolences to all family and friends.

Sherwin was my friend. He was also counselor and negotiator for me with two wives and, over time, with my original three law partners, and over time 15 or so others. He was my advisor in ALI where his wise advise sometimes kept me out of trouble. He never "preached". He just "suggested" in a way that encouraged you to "think again". He will be greatly missed.

Mary Anne, Sherwin and Stephen: My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I can't believe he is gone. Working with Sherwin was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I learned more from him than any other person I have ever known. He was so much like my real dad, that even today I compare the two of them. He made me stronger both in the work place and in my personal life. I will miss him dearly. May God watch over each of you and guide you through this time of loss. Deb #2

We were not fully aware of the scope of Sherwin's professional career but from what we have read about his life these past few days, we know he was truly an awesome gentleman and scholar. Sherwin and Amie's marriage has brought our families together forever - for these last seven years we have had the great fortune to get to know Sherwin and now he will live on in the life of his yet to be born grandson, Sherwin Palmer Simmons III.
Our deepest sympathy to you, Mary Anne, and all of your family. May God bless and comfort you in the coming days and weeks ahead.

Sherwin was my mentor. I worked with him from 1981 until 1990 and ran into him from time to time after that. He was very influential in my development not only as an attorney but also as a member of the Tampa Bay community. He was like a second father. I wish he were here so I could tell this to him in person, but he would probably answer by telling me he knew all this already. I will miss him.

To the Simmons Family -
It is with deepest regrets I write this note. I had the pleasure of being a student of Sherwin's in the LLM Program at Univ. of Miami. Sherwin taught me to love ERISA, and encouraged me to include ERISA in my practice. I've also been fortunate to have been able to maintain that contact with Sherwin through the ERISA Group lunches in Miami. He always had a word of encouragement!
He will be missed

I deeply sympathize with your loss. I am an ERISA attorney and have known Sherwin as both an instuctor and a facilitator of the numerous seminars I have attended over the past 20+ years in which he has been a speaker. Sherwin's breadth of knowledge was truly remarkable and awe-inspiring in every seminar I attended. As a facilitator, he lent a touch of humor as well as a dignified presence in his role. In the summer of 2003, I had the pleasure of getting to know Sherwin on a more personal level. Again he was both a speaker and a moderator of the seminar, which was a week-long event in San Francisco. I got to exchange pleasantries with Sherwin and saw him for the open minded friendly person that he was. No practicing attorney today, regardless of how many years experience, has the breadth and depth of knowledge of ERISA that Sherwin had. He will be deeply missed at every future seminar I attend.
