I am a lawyer in the City of Houston’s Legal Department and knew Robert from work. Robert was always patient, kind, funny, interesting and extremely smart. He was a pleasure to work with and know. My sincere condolences to his family. We miss him.

I am a partner at Shook Hardy where Robert was working when he passed away. I also had the privilege of interviewing him on campus. He was a solid guy and a joy to know. He will be missed.

This is Robert's little sister Alice, I want to thank you all for sharing your thoughts and memories with us it means a great deal. For myself Robert was my Big Brother that I know I bugged too much... He did teach me how to play chess which I think he let me win (maybe once). He introduced me to SNL back in the day and he would of course read and watch tv at the same time. I was so proud of him and told him so when he entered Law School. He is going to be a GREAT JUDGE. Thank you all for sharing his life and making him so happy. Alice-

Robert was a good friend.I was shocked to read about his passing. What I remember most was how he helped lead our Middle and High School Academic Decathalon Teams to many victories.(It was called Knowledge Bowl back then.)
We also shared many adventures as Boy Scouts. My sympathy goes out to his entire family. Especially Mark and Terry who I also attend school with.

Well, they claim there aren’t any lawyers in heaven, but Robert would be the first, I’m thinking…Oh my, what to say about such an incredible person…all I know is that you would not find another person like Robert if you searched forever. We all know that he was extremely intelligent, but he also had a very rare strength of character. He was a very giving person. He told me one time, “I guarantee you that if I say I’m going to do something, that’s what I’m going to do.” And he lived by that promise. Not to mention that Robert had a mischievous, wickedly cute sense of humor. And a love of books…my God, he loved books…the first time I lent him a paperback, he brought it back. I had meant for him to keep it, so I was surprised. He said, “You mean you can part with your books? How could you do that?” He loved Italian food, even though I never made it to his favorite Italian restaurant (another regret, Robert). I picture Robert in heaven spending part of his time reading, maybe living out his favorite books, and well, I’m sure if any Supreme Court judges are there, he’s having rapt discussions with them. He’s also added a most beautiful voice to the angel karaoke. And most likely a beautiful angel to keep him company. I miss my best friend. He was special. He was loved. And will always be. Hugs and blessings to his family. He loved you very much.

Hearing of Robert's passing came as a shock to me as it did to everyone. My sincerest sympathy to his family. It has been three years since I had the pleasure of working with Robert at the City, but I remember discussing many topics with him including our cats. I remember Robert with a smile on his face, a cup of coffee in his hand and a cd case under his arm ready to tackle any and all computer problems. God speed to Robert. Heaven now has one fine computer tecky and a very nice person. We will all miss him.
May God bless his family during this time and may they all remember the fun and happy times to help them through the tough times.

I'll miss Robert. He was always helpful when I called him with a computer problem, and I enjoyed riding in his carpool in the evenings. I loved his taste in music (the Traveling Wilburys, Mannheim Steamroller, Little River Band) and enjoyed hearing him sing along when I wasn't.

Robert was my cousin and his passing is a sad shock for his extended family. Robert's family moved to San Diego in the late 1960s and his entire clan(including dog) stayed at our house when they first arrived. I remember one night all the kids jumped in the pool with our pajamas on ... except for Robert ... he was quietly reading a science fiction novel on the patio. Later, however, he joined the party and accomplished the biggest cannonball of all time! Robert always marched to the beat of his own drummer, and we marveled at his incredible mind (and SAT score!). We mourn his passing and extend our sympathies to Elizabeth, Mark, Alice and Terry.

As a co-worker in the Legal Department I did not see Robert every day. However, an email or telephone call and immediately Robert cheerfully appeared to make the computer work so that I could work. Robert's keen intelligence always made his work seem easy and enjoyable. I will miss Robert being a phone call away.

Robert was always so full of cheer; had a very positive attitude; and solved so many of my tech problems when I was in the Legal Department. I attended the memorial yesterday at the Legal Department and it was such a pleasure to hear what all he accomplished since my leaving. Everyone considered him to be very intelligent and always compassionate to others.

Even in the little things, Robert made us smile. He originated the "I'll be out of the office - please be kind to J.R. in my absence" messages. He met our computer problems with an amazing and contagious calm. I look forward to seeing him again.

Robert was my collegue and one of my best friends at work. I have known Robert for almost four years, and I will always remember him as a very friendly, optimistic and kind person. His charm and sincerity were totally disarming and put smiles on many faces. To me, Robert is an inspiration and one of the most brilliant people I have ever met. Even though he was already a very accomplished man, a highly respected professional with multiple Master's degrees, he still wanted to pursue his dream of being a Federal Judge! I suspected that law school, on top of the full time job, was tough, but Robert was always so optimistic and cheerful about it! He had a wisdom of knowing how to live to the fullest, how to enjoy life, totally, and how to touch lives of those around him with positivity and inspirational wisdom. I will miss Robert, his smile, his kindness, his advice. He will live in my heart and in the hearts of many others. Robert, most definitely, influenced my life and choices, and I am very honored that I met him on my life path!

Robert was a great man. He was never shy about singing Karaoke, and always had a book in hand. He had a thirst for knowledge and a hunger for success. Robert was never a judgmental man and he was not a stranger to anyone. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. Robert, your voice, kindness, and knowledge will be missed by us all. Thank you for what you have given and the impressions you have left on us all.

Robert was a very admirable man. I was amazed by his intelligence. I think that he should pass away so young is a terrible waste. He had so much going for him and such an exciting life ahead of him. I will always remember him walking around the Legal Department with coffee cup in hand.

I didn't know Robert that well, unfortunately, but I will always think of him as a good person and an incredible mind

Robert was my colleague, but more importantly, my very good friend. I was fortunate enough to see him every day and enjoyed his company and friendship. He was one of the most intelligent people I had every met, had a cunning wit and was well on his way to being a very talented and gifted attorney. He recently took a leave of absence to take a summer associate position with Shook Hardy & Bacon. I was counting the days until he returned to work as I had not had a decent argument since he left. He loved law school, books, his cats, good food and his friends. This was the happiest time of his life -- I had never seen him so very happy. I will truly miss him for the rest of my life.

I met Robert when we both entered the part-time program at the University of Houston Law Center in May 2003. In Criminal Law, Robert, myself, Mandy Diaz, and Marie Carlisle formed a "law firm" group where we would all take turns answering the professor's questions. Robert was one of the most academically gifted individuals I have ever met. His talent and zest for the law will leave a deep void in the legal community. My condolencs to his family and many freinds.

Robert was exceptional. His brilliance was apparent, but perhaps even more impressive was his kindness to everyone he worked with. He was an important part of the Legal Dept., and we will miss him very much. The world will also miss this man of keen intellect, gentleness and integrity.
