Herman C. Smith Obituary

Anniston - Funeral service for Mr. Herman C. Smith Sr., 88, will be at 2 p.m. today, April 16, 2011, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with the Rev. Hubert Ford and the Rev. Randy Postell officiating. Interment will follow at Anniston Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 12 - 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Smith passed away Thursday, April 14, 2011, at Golden Living Center in Oxford. Survivors include his wife, Dean "Deanie" Smith; sons, Herman C. (Laura) Smith Jr. and Jeffrey D. (Lucy) Smith; sister, Mary Etta Norris; five granddaughters; one step-grandson and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Cosper Bell, Sonny Bell, Sonny Bell Jr., Billy Huddleston, Kenny Greenwood and Ken Bishop. Honorary pallbearers, Eddie Bryant, Mike Reese, Ray Reese Doy Feazell, Lynn Martin, Ed Champion and Doug Shaddix. Mr. Smith was a native of Pleasant Ridge Alabama and lifelong resident of Calhoun County. He enlisted in the Army in 1943 and was a veteran of World War II. Also, he was a member of First Baptist Church of Saks and retired from the Anniston Star after 26 years of service. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Pearl Smith; sister, Sue Bryant; brothers, Ellis Smith, Joe Smith and Andrew Smith.
