Gladys Forgety Obituary

FORGETY, GLADYS PRICE - of Strawberry Plains, TN, born June 20, 1918 in the Greenbriar Community of Sevier County, passed away peacefully on Jan. 4, 2009 in Knoxville, TN. She was predeceased by her husband, Telford E. Forgety, Sr.; granddaughter, Brandy Maples; parents, Lee and Ola (Branam) Price; sisters, Ruth Corbett and Blanche Doyle; and her brother, Earl Price. Gladys graduated Maury High School in Dandridge and Carson-Newman College. She began her teaching career at The Oakland School in Jefferson County, then taught many years in The Knox County School System, retiring with 26 years of service. She was an active and well-loved member of Trentville United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday school and participating in all church activities for over 45 years. She loved her church and often provided transportation to elderly members. She was also a member of The Mascot Home Demonstration Club. She loved to travel, play canasta, to connect with other people and to cook for her family. She will be sorely missed. She is survived by her 5 children: Linda (Melvin) Phipps of Dandridge, John (Faye) Forgety of Athens, Telford (Vickie) Forgety, Jr. of New Market, Alice Forgety (Bruce Clay) of Raleigh, NC, and Laura (Danny) Boring of Knoxville; grandchildren, Scott Phipps, Kasey (Jamie) Abart, Lee (Amanda) Phipps, Telford Forgety III ("Trey"), and Shea Forgety; along with 2 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, Clyde (Ida) Price , Charles Price; sister, Pearl (E.C.) Dearing and sister-in-law, Helen Forgety Travis; also many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Special thanks to Dr. David B. Wooten for his loving care and to special neighbor, Jim Riley. Funeral Services will be Wednesday evening, January 7, 2009 from the Farrar Funeral Home Jefferson City Chapel with Rev. Charles David Frazier and Rev. Jim Whedbee officiating. Visitation will be 7 PM Wednesday afternoon and evening 1-3 and 5-7 prior to the funeral service. Graveside interment service will be at 10:30 AM on Thursday at Hillcrest Cemetery in Dandridge. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the East Tennessee Foundation, Brandy Maples Memorial Scholarship Fund, 625 Market Street, Suite 1400, Knoxville TN 37902.
