Helen Collins Obituary

COLLINS, HELEN L. - age 93, a loving mother and grandmother, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2009 at her home. She was a lifelong member of North Knoxville Baptist Church. A seamstress for most of her life who loved Christmas time and all the joy that surrounded the holidays, she was called "Mother Christmas." She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Conley Collins; two brothers, Jim Cochran and Jack Cochran; and two sisters, Myrtle Nelson and Georgia Williams. She is survived by eight children, Carolyn Williamson, Anthony and Betty Collins, Margaret (Becky) Furrow, Stan Collins, Debbie and Gene Flatford, Vickie and Anthony Stevens, Cindy Vardaman, and Rod Collins; 14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to St. Mary's Hospice for the care of our mother and especially to Niki Souder for the daily unselfish love she gave our mother and for being the answer to our prayers. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel with Reverend Guy Milam officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ted Scott Williamson, Darron Flatford, Jeremy Vardaman, Denver Stevens, Daniel Flatford, Dwayne Sanders and Daniel Ford. She loved flowers, however if you prefer you may send memorial contributions to St. Mary's Hospice. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel.

Our family (all of the Cupps) was so sorry to hear of your loss. We treasure the memories of Mrs. Helen, especially at Christmas, with all of the beautiful packages. She was always so gracious to the guests who came to admire her handiwork. Her life was a beautiful testimony of her love for God and her family. She will be missed.

Debbie: Your Mother must have been a wonderful person, as I see that reflected in you. I also will always remember what a nice and fun fellow Stanley was back in the Fulton High School days. I will be thinking of you and your family with caring love. Your memories will grow sweeter and sweeter.
