Charles J. Kloss Jr.

1920 - 2011

Charles (Chuck) Kloss of Roslyn, WA died peacefully on Feb. 27, 2011. He was 90 years old. He was born on November 16, 1920 in Roslyn to Charles and Mary (Wargo) Kloss. He graduated from Easton High School in 1938 and worked at #5 Mine beginning Sept. 1938. In Dec. of 1941 he joined the US Army Air Force and attained the rank of Master Sgt. and served in the 18th Fighter Group, 70th Fighter Squadron and 13th Air Force. In 1943 his fighter squadron was part of the group that took down Emperor Yamamoto for which he received the Presidential Unit Citation. He was honorably discharged on November 16, 1945. He continued to work at #5 and #3 mines until they closed and then #9 mine until it closed in 1963. From 1965 to 1982 he worked for the Engineering Dept. at DOT in Ellensburg. He retired in 1982. He is a 73 year member of UMWA, VFW Post 1373, and Roslyn FOE Aerie 649.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years Jeanette, sons Charles of Beaverton, Oregon, Richard (Michele) of Cle Elum, and Michael (Teresa) of Roslyn; grandchildren Kimberly (Mark) Akin, Kristopher of California; David of Cle Elum, Michael of Seattle, Taylor of Florida and numerous cousins.

At his request there will be no services. Private burial will be at a later date. Affordable Funeral Care is in charge of arrangements. Donations in his memory can be made to a charity of your choice.
